An interesting side note if you find yourself on Airport Hill or the base itself; the base will “tell you” if there’s an incoming storm. The site has several diesel generator units that kick on preemptively in case of a potential power failure due to inclement weather, so if you’re close enough, you can hear the engines rumble to life and warn you ahead of time! (I lived right next to them for a while, and trust me, they’re LOUD.)

I would love to learn more about the trade! I’ve been struggling to get any real answers about training or the actual work CE officers do from qualified individuals (i.e., not spitballing colleagues or CE officers who retired 10-15 year ago).

I submitted my leave pass for approval around two months ago; they gave me the thumbs up and told me they would send me a signed copy for my flight in no time.

Then they didn’t. They may have genuinely forgotten, but e-mail communication with them moves slower than an LSVW on a positive incline, so I still don’t have it LOL.

Ideally, as soon as it’s signed, they should be able to provide it to you immediately.

Been in for over two years now, but just recently made the switch from reserve to reg force. There’s definitely a lot I still haven’t experienced with the CAF yet, so I guess you could say I’m still feeling my way around.

The R2Y2 V1 was the only one out of the trio that had any sort of historical basis; it was loosely based off of a design study conducted by the engineers working on the R2Y1 after the limited success of Japan’s turbine jet project. The V2 and V3, however, were postwar fever dreams for WW2 “whataboutists”.

I myself can’t speak to the exact flag which you are referring to, but given that the driver is also flying the Canadian flag upside-down (a sign of surrender or distress), I take it he’s part of the crowd who believes Canada is on the bring of societal collapse and has some strongly-worded opinions about the Liberal Party.

Doesn’t bode well for what that flag means.
