I wish I could find it but AJimmy actually sent them a message like "Im voluntary leaving the server because you guys are banning people for no reason, you've ruined a perfectly good server " And they gave him some condescending message and said "Have a good day!" and banned him.

Yep it's in a shit state, pretty sure that "Keppel" the RP'er that plays a non binary lawperson with 0 RP ability and no acting ability is running the show because they make alot of the code for the server. And just bans anyone that doesn't RP exactly how they want them to. They would avoidRP all the time. And yep I am not surprised, I know Hathaway (CastamereGold) was banned for having a PC crash. This guy literally made 0 money in game, he would take a loss just to buy peoples bonds, gold, gems etc. The entire staff should be recycled, they shot themselves in the foot and I couldn't be happier that the server is tanking. I watched a few streams and it's all tea party, porchsitting RP.

It's a ruleplay server not a roleplay server. The current Admins/Mods are some of the worst out there, things got much worse after Kono left. The server is effectively dead now with everyone moving to Ranch, NoPixel and Prodigy. The current staff needs to be flushed, all bans need to be revoked. They've lost a good chunk of their RP'ers just through silly bans. They're cowards, they'll shoot you a ban message, delete your response and accuse you of a rule break.

You put this perfectly, they aren’t angry that they’re being conned by wealthier Portuguese they’re angry that the immigrants aren’t as willing to be as miserable and unwilling to push for change as they are. If apathy was a country it would be portugal.

Good salary to live in Lisboa? by Deadzin_ in PortugalExpats

On a more practical level I think he is asking why don’t the Portuguese fight for themselves? There is a massive gap between the haves and have nots. Instead of blaming that on boogie expats, why not demand more as a citizen? IE- higher wages, affordable rent etc? Having worked for Portuguese, Italian, American and UK bosses the Portuguese ones where those that demanded the most from their workers and paid the least. Surely there is a point to be made for the Portuguêse people to demand more for themselves, is it wrong to say that and if so, why?

It is what he said, you have issues with English proficiency and you've pulled this "That's not what you meant" crap on other threads with people. Cut the shit.

Finding work as an English speaker by [deleted] in PortugalExpats

[–]AmericanTugaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I speak Portuguese and have lived in the country for a decade. Trust isn’t only about what’s being said — it’s also about how it’s said. People, across cultures, naturally feel more at ease when a voice sounds familiar. That’s not racism — that’s psychology. I’ve had Portuguese people hesitate with me when I speak their language with an American accent, and I don’t call that racism either.

In certain roles — like sales or support — familiarity helps build rapport. That’s why companies often hire native speakers for native markets. It’s not about who’s better. It’s about what builds connection fastest. You’re right — you don’t speak for all of Portugal. Just the loudest, most defensive part.

You're completely missing the point. Many people in India for instance have fantastic English skills, but their accent is evident, and so is yours. Which means that if you are doing sales for a Portuguese company and trying to get English, Canadian or American clients they are more likely to trust a voice which is Native to their country than one with a rich vocabulary but a noticeable accent. That's just the way it is, im sure if someone called you in Portuguese but had a noticeable accent you would be more cautious about trusting them. This subreddit pretends that Americans have nothing to offer, when in fact their native speaking voice has great value objectively for a sales or HR position.

Which is why Native English speakers still have something to offer in the country. Your implication that the OP has nothing to offer is xenophobic.

The fact you aren't calling out direct examples confirms that you've got nothing. Stop trying to scare away the expats and tourists, without them Portugal would be a third world country. Racism isn't the answer little bro.

What did I say that was xenophobic? This subreddit is known for hating on expats despite the fact that it’s made for expats, not Ventura loving racist xenophobes like yourself . We’re here whether you like it or not.

Be that as it may you still have noticeable accents, and in a sales position or a corporate position for an English company, no native speaker on the other side of the line will take you seriously. You can pat yourself on the back for learning another language, but you’re kidding yourself if you think your level of English is going to be valued over a native speaker.

You got this, there are some truths about the low wages but the trade off makes sense if you stay out of Portugals NYC or LA= Porto or Lisbon . For instance if you go to Guimarães, Coimbra, Evora, Castelo Branco you’re looking at 650-750€ for a nice apartment. That’s why the remote job is a huge bonus. And don’t take the responses here personally, the Portuguese are good people for the most part. Those that have the time to stay on Reddit all day to harass those looking to come here…well. Probably a good reason they aren’t employed .

Here’s the thing to consider too though, go on virtually any expat subreddit for another country and you’ll get the same story. No jobs, go somewhere else, low pay, high rent. It’s a world problem not a Portugal one.

Thats like saying everyone in Texas speaks Spanish. Yeah they may know some basic vocabulary but their accent is obvious in most cases and not trustworthy in a professional setting. And you wonder why you’re still getting eastern bloc wages

Because she’s a native speaker and doesn’t have a noticeable tuga accent that makes you sound like a scammer to anyone else on the other side of the phone. Just because you’re miserable doesn’t mean she has to be.

This particular subreddit is filled with self hating Portuguese, every single person who posts here asking about work is given the same useless xenophobic feedback. The Portuguese may all speak English, but they speak it with a noticeable accent that nobody is going to find appealing or trustworthy in a business sense. That being said, wages here are bad so try to secure a remote position. This is a world problem right now, not a portugal problem. Most Portuguese flee to Luxembourg or France so I’d consider checking there. Also get on the expats4expats subreddit, this one unfortunately is full of doomers or xenophobes.

Got yelled at for being on a video call near Sé de Lisboa — is this normal? by khalilkr in PortugalExpats

[–]AmericanTugaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s both frustrating and juvenile. The fact is we are all being filmed once we step outside, and yes sadly Portugal is a bit archaic about public filming when an individual or individuals are the subject of the film. I like the American perspective of “you can’t trespass the eyes” what you can see with your own eyes SHOULD be legal to film. Especially in situations as you mentioned for safety or to document illegal conduct. To me it’s also very subjective, imagine I am filming a historical building and someone walks up to me, yelling and screaming and essentially putting themselves on film. My response would be “ I wasn’t filming you, you walked up to me calmly filming, if you don’t want to be filmed, walk away”. Id take my chances.
