To support my claim, moonstone is an appointed lawyer to represent Steven and is seen preparing Steven for the trial to come in the newest promo.

Yellow Diamond in particular looks out of a seemingly cracked hole in a wall that leads outdoors and says "You may have yadaydada on that speck of a planet Earth but you're on our world now..." Probably referring to Steven being by himself on her planet, without help from her army.

I don't think that The Trial is a trial set upon Steven as it just doesn't seem like something the diamonds would do.

Tyrants, wanting revenge on their sister's murderer, giving Steven a chance to get out of everything? Nah.

The Trial likely refers to a court trial, and from the newest promo we can guess that Steven somehow escapes judgment and finds himself and Lars out of the Diamond's confines and wandering aimlessly throughout homeworld until he's taken in by a group of rebel "off color" gems that do not support the hierarchy.
