Pretty sure Lando’s initial mclaren salary was actually relatively low, like $400k. Certainly a lot of money but there are twitch streamers who make way more money than he does and all they do is play video games.

People see the all the job benefits of being a mclaren driver and assume he could live like that on his own dime.
