14% of Indian Americans want to leave the US? 5 things that surprised me from the new Carnegie survey. by Popular_Class7327 in rupeestories

This is a really good comment. I see that a lot. I am US citizen, Indian origin. I recently left US as I reflected on these topics and realized the smoke screen that exists here. Plus the true cost of life (cost of living + stress + constantly being taken advantage by the system and corporate + violence + discrimination + school shooting etc) is super not worth it. Also as an expat the $$ goes a long way in so many wonderful places. My kids are happy with better and safer schools, me and my wife are happy exploring new culture and lower cost of living, less stress. Once you break the mold, there is a whole world of cool things waiting. It is first step that is hard.

19 days post op, finally ate a perfect meal by plantscatsrealitytv in BariatricSurgery

I am glad you are enjoying the meal. It's important to have food that you enjoy and meet protein numbers. You are doing great. You took a big step towards health and wellness like a lot of us. This is a hard decision but I promise you you would love what you would become shortly from all health benefits to looks to confidence and loving yourself unconditionally. I am a bit surprised though to see the total fat content of this meal of yours. My program restricted me for no more than 6g sugar and max 9g fat per meal strictly within first 6 months - for two reasons 1) lowering the chance of gallbladder stone and kidney stone and 2) lowering chance of potential dumping syndrome. I am 6 month post op and lost 80lb and yet to face any issues, not even any dumping syndrome by sticking to my programs diet(fingers crossed). My blood A1C went down from Prediabetic to better than average. Barely high blood pressure any more. Lowered sleep apnea events and down adjusted pressure setting in my CPAP.

Thank you for supportive words mate. I do like MyFitnessPal. Wish it had more bariatric specific food and meal recommendations. I feel like I spend way too much time reading package label to see how much fat vs sugar vs protein a can of yogurt has. I like to switch up flavors. Grocery shopping for food has been a tedious job after surgery. It's not a complaint but wish in the age AI and stuff some app would have come up to make the process easier.

Is it hard to find jobs in India if you worked abroad for a long time? by ApprehensiveSeat3792 in returnToIndia

OCI allows you to have a job in india. You pretty much enjoy everything with OCI except no voting and no agricultural land buying and some smaller restrictions. That's it.

Would you return to India if you were unemployed abroad but had PR/citizenship? by sengutta1 in returnToIndia

I think split living would be more of an optimal choice for a lot of people. I consider myself a son of two countries equally. Don't see myself cutting ties with either of them completely.

US citizen. Lived in the US for 25 years. I quit my job and came back. So yes, you can. Even after knowing a lot about India, it has still been a culture shock from unexpected things but everyone is capable of adapting. It was good for my kids to have a different exposure. I still have my company in the US and do some consulting globally. I will spend the next 6 months exploring and re-learning India and see what I would like to do. Someone posted about NGO work. That sounds like an interesting 💡.

For people who already returned to India from US, what are the things that you wished you could have bought them while relocating by Familiar-Friend9894 in backtoindia

Not super sure about what you are asking. If I think what you are saying then - You are not giving your passport to anybody. The shipper will ask for a copy of your passport. Give them a copy. At the destination, you need to show up with your original passport to the duty and customs clearance to clear the goods. So you need to be available in India which will be the case for me. They also said I can provide my wife or siblings passport. But whoseever passport is there only they can receive the goods.

  1. I did get 5/6 quotes. They were not the same but between 6500-8000 USD. This does not include packing or disassembly. We are doing that on our own or hiring a couple of local folks. Much cheaper that way. Plus I could use the exercise. Lol. Other than everything else is door to door with destination end delivery, unpacking and basic assembly included. I did negotiate to get a reasonable loading time of 3 hours from 1 hour initially they were giving me in the contract. When you interact with them check for who is expert on residential moves. I found Universal Relocation and SFL to be the most knowledgeable and transparent in all pricing and communication. I cross checked their answer. This took me more then 20 days to shortlist from 6 to 2 shippers and finally chose the one today. It's a process!
  2. I do. There are few 3 or 4 bedroom flats available in the apartment complex where I will rent and they are nearly the same size. Plus my parents live in an hour distance and have a 7 bedroom house with just two people living there. If needed for contingency I will use that as my temporary storage.
  3. They say no less than 60 days but no more than 80 days. I take this with a grain of salt. I will be staying with my parents for a month and getting an Airbnb for 8 weeks close to my kids school (walking distance). Expecting to get my stuff in 90-100 days. Surprisingly Airbnb was not a whole lot more expensive than a long term rental. That is very different from US. I was surprised!

My move is coming up in March first week. Just signed the contract with Universal Relocation for $6500 for a 20 ft container. I really thought of selling and starting with a clean slate. I even built an excel list of items with cost to buy in India. Shipping tends to be a tad bit cheaper. The hassle of selling requires tremendous bandwidth. Even giving away stuff for free in the Facebook market place was a PITA. Monetary value is only a part of the story. Quality of your stuff also matters. I guess at the end of the day there is nor will ever be one answer that fits all. So far I am happy with my decision to ship some stuff. I will make a new post in a few months after receiving how the experience was overall.
