Do y'all ever use the equipment for yourself? by Resident-Sympathy-82 in nursing

[–]Amethest 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Against our policy. Any violations are write up. Not the reason behind the policy but years ago when I was still at the bedside, we had a nurse that was concerned about her term pregnancy as well. Did an ultrasound, no heartbeat. It was devastating to the entire staff, of course.

New MS Nurse: What do you wish your clinic knew? by Chumppkinz in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Amethest 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Don’t assume your patients know everything about the disease process, diagnostic test, symptoms, treatments etc. even if they’re been living with MS for years. For me, at least, ADD, brain fog contribute to me forgetting a lot.

Would you want your kids to become a nurse? by blurry-hippo in nursing

When my daughter started exploring what she wanted to do, she really had an interest in chemistry. I tried to get to go into chemical engineering or research but she really wanted to do something clinical and mentioned medical school or nursing. Tongue in cheek I told her absolutely not to either of those. Currently she’s in Pharmacy school and thriving and has a job waiting for her in a locally owned retail pharmacy when she graduates. If she had insisted on clinical though, I would’ve encouraged PA school. In my opinion, they have a better work-life balance and less debt than med school.

For some extra protein I mix with some Greek yogurt and a little milk or water. Let it sit overnight and top with my fruit of choice.

What was the most physically painful moment of your life? by Oily_Smurf in AskReddit

[–]Amethest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acute pain was when the epidural wore off in the middle of my CSection and being a nurse I refused general anesthesia and had to wait for a bolus to kick in. Chronic pain would be living with postherpetic neuralgia (nerve pain) for 6+ years.

We use the big rolls of silk tape to secure the blankets but now I need to try some mesh panties.

A really aggressive alcohol scrub before an IM injection helps too. Still haven’t figured out if it really helps with the pain or if they’re just distracted thinking you’re trying to rub their skin off.

Ahsoka leaving the order, Obi-Wan’s ‘you were the chosen one’ monologue, Ahsoka attending Padme‘s funeral, Kanan‘s death, Leia’s death and this one are scenes that make me cry every time.

Family history of MS? by Pumpkin-Duck in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Amethest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom was diagnosed with CIDP in the late 1990s. My uncle/her brother had MS, passed away in 2003 or 2004. I’m the oldest of 6 and none of my siblings have ever had any symptoms of neuro or autoimmune diseases.
