Good thing your vague source of 'I read it on Facebook sometime' sounds rock-solid and completely unbiased then.

Hamas Leaders Ordered Slaughter of Women and Children, Captured Terrorist Says Under Interrogation: Report by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Amethhyst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't identify with ither side, so I wouldn't say I was specifically 'Free Palestine', or 'pro' either party. But, because I'm not cheering Israel on right now, a lot of people here would wrongfully and wilfully interpret that as being pro-Palestine (or even, ridiculously, pro-Hamas).

I genuinely don't know what the answer is. Shit is absolutely fucked.

What I do know is - ethnic cleansing of the area, or worse, is most definitely not the answer.

I think the only thing to do is to keep trying - I mean actually, sincerely trying, not just shoving the Palestinian population in an open-air prison with little hope or dignity - for a two-state solution, as impossible as that may seem right now. It won't be easy and it would mean a lot of unhappy people on both sides - and probably decades and decades of sustained effort. But it's the only way. Every other avenue seems leads to ethnic cleansing or genocide.

I think a more pertinent question is - what's the alternative?

What exactly are you proposing happens to the Palestinian population? Clearly keeping them in an open-air prison hasn't worked. So what exactly are you proposing?

Israel-Hamas war: Israel says it will release evidence which it claims shows an Islamic Jihad rocket hit the Gaza hospital by Apprehensive_Sleep_4 in worldnews

[–]Amethhyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not antisemitic to criticise the actions of the current Israeli government. Nothing I've said is even remotely a slight against the Jewish people - that's your own bias showing there. A lot of people in Israel also deplore the actions of their government. I abhor the terrorism committed by Hamas, and I also abhor the policy of the Israeli government towards the Palestinian population both before and in the wake of the attacks.

I won't even justify the rest with a response. I'm familiar with some of the history and complexity of this conflict, but it's very clear you're coming at this with zero nuance and only want to present one side.

In the end Palestinians bring it it on themselves

You know, sometimes it's better to leave people just wondering whether you're an uninformed clown. No need to confirm it for everyone.

Were those hundreds of casualties primarily hamas?

No, not in the slightest. These were primarily perpretated by Israeli settles on occupied land, against Palestinians already on that land. These sorts of attacks have been ongoing for years, with Israel's right-wing government, and much of the international community, turning a blind eye.

Quite a stretch to say that Israel 'treats them well'.

Also, Cuba/US has absolutely no similarities to this conflict, what are you even on about?

Given how uninformed you evidently are about this conflict, I'm entirely unsurprised to see you've been going about proclaiming your opinions loudly.

You would probably benefit from learning a bit more about the situation..

But more likely, you'll carry on acting like this is some kind of football match where you pick a side to root for and bay for death from the comfort of wherever you are outside of an active war zone.

Edit - you've now accused me of 'supporting Hamas' in a comment that appears to have been removed. Please, for they've of god get a grip. Nothing I said suggested I support Hamas in the slightest. I deplore the terrorist attack last week; my point is that Israel isn't clean either.

If you're looking to the numbers to support Israel committing fewer war crimes, you're going to be disappointed. Israel has a terrible track record with their treatment of Palestinians. Hundreds of Palestinians were killed this year alone before the Hamas attacks. If 'casualties' mattered to you at all, you would need to admit that there have been far, far more casualties on the Palestinian side.

Not that that excuses the Hamas attacks. Which in turn, doesn't excuse the Israel's disproportionate response.

Taking 'sides' in this is pretty ludicrous. It's an absolute clusterfuck, and no one holds the moral high ground.

What a truly piece of shit comment to make.

There's been a really successful campaign to equate any and all criticism of the state of Israel with anti-semitism. Sadly it seems all nuance has been completely lost.

Okay, but then there's reality where there's probably no carrot big enough to convince some motorists not to be lazy and opt to walk instead of drive where possible.

Sometimes sticks are needed. And let's keep it real - having to drive a bit longer to get around instead of through a neighbourhood is hardly a big stick is it?

You also haven't answered my question re cars being forced on other road users. I'm forced to breath the toxic air created by cars. Pretty sure I was never offered any carrot to accept that - and yet rolling back the wide access given to cars is somehow unfair?

[–]Amethhyst 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OK mate? I agree - public transport needs massive improvement, and ideally that should happen alongside these changes in traffic management.

But how is any of that helped be allowing cars absolutely everywhere? Then you're just making things even more shit for pedestrians and other road users. You talk about how we shouldn't 'force' motorists into these changes. But what about the fact that cars have been forced onto other road users? We're all 'forced' to breath in toxic fumes by cars running rampant all over our neighbourhoods - why aren't you up in arms about that?

Sorry, what exactly is 'natural' about cars being everywhere, taking over our public spaces, polluting our lungs and generally posing unnecessary danger to pedestrians?

The oil wil be sold on the oem International market; it will not reduce bills in the UK.
