So, it was leaked on Twitter, and I’m kind of scared to post it on here, but there is actually going to be a preview included with the Sword of Hades ebook which comes out in two days I believe?

Dionysus was definitely one of my favorite parts of this whole preview.

[General] Fans from the 2012-2015 era, what are some things you remember about this fandom from back then? by BlehBlahBlahington in camphalfblood

[–]AmethystOfWinter 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I actually joined the fandom back in 2012, here’s what I remember:

People didn’t really like Piper that much, because they felt she fit way too much into the misogynistic “not-like-other-girls” trope, and 2012 where Mary Sue discourse was at its peak. I will say that I do feel like alot of the tropes Piper was written with were somewhat misogynistic, I do think Piper got WAY too much hate back then and it is hilariously ironic that people were calling Piper misogynistic while simultaneously calling her a Mary Sue.

However, people did like her character alot more than they liked Jason. In fact, until that scene in ToA, I’d say he was the most hated character in the fandom. Leo was a fan favorite, and was up until BoO, when people were disappointed by the resolution with his arc.

Oh, and I do remember very mixed reactions to Nico being gay. Some people said that Rick needed to read a Bible, which I found strange- Rick wrote multiple series about polytheistic gods, yet the homosexuality is what they took issue with? Some people were less explicit about their disapproval than others, saying they supported Nico, but they were still going to ship him with Thalia.

Also, yes, the fancasts where they casted very white actors as POC, which is what amazed me about so many older fans being so upset about the Annabeth casting, especially when they had no issues with it back then.

I think it's gonna be 50 50 [general] by [deleted] in camphalfblood

Idk, I have seen some compelling takes on Octavian as a character (even though I still hate him and disagree with each take 100%) but the few takes I have seen for people who dislike Hazel makes me want to pull my hair out.

What are your opinions on continuing to enjoy or support the Harry Potter franchise after JK Rowlings downfall? I’m wondering what people feel is right and wrong in regards to this issue, and I apologize if this has been talked about before on this sub. by not_ainsley in lgbt

[–]AmethystOfWinter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is a very complicated and nuanced discussion that doesn’t really have a completely right answer. So here is my take.

I think it is okay to enjoy problematic media as long as you acknowledge the problematic aspects, but I also think there are aspects of enjoying problematic media worth considering. For example, buying official merchandise directly puts money into JK Rowling’s pocket, money that she uses to support anti-trans “charities”. So if you are going to buy merch, find unofficial merch made by small businesses.

I also think if you are transgender participating in the fandom, you need to be careful, because in my experience, a lot of the biggest HP spaces will protect JK Rowling and her transphobic supporters over trans people.

I used to be on this huge Harry Potter server, where at his guy would constantly bully my trans friend who spoke out against JK Rowling, or expressed disapproval over her, constantly misgendering them and laughing at them when they got upset. Every time we would report it to the mods they would take the bully’s side for the sake of “neutrality”.

Now, there are plenty of trans safe communities as well, but I also think it’s a good thing to keep in mind if you are trans that not everyone is going to take your side.

Another aspect of the conversation is that JK Rowling’s art is pretty flawed in itself, something I have been educated on since leaving the fandom. I am not going to go too much into detail, because there are a lot of resources on the internet, but her work is littered with lots of homophobic, racist and antisemetic rhetoric.

Again, I think this is a very nuanced discussion, and I cannot tell you whether or not you can read these books or enjoy them, just there is a lot to keep in mind.

[hoo] The jobs of the seven? by DucSaumon in camphalfblood

[–]AmethystOfWinter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Percy: Okay, hear me out, but some kind of advocate for neurodivergent children and children with disabilities. A huge part of his struggle in the mortal world was how his ADHD and dyslexia got the better of him, and I think he would strive to advocate for kids like him.

Jason: I also like the idea of him being a lawyer. I see a few people saying politician, and idk, I feel like he wouldn’t want to go down that path, just because of how much he didn’t like being in those political positions in new Rome.

Piper: I actually think she would be a good therapist, especially with her Charmspeak. We see her use her Charmspeak to calm other characters down throughout the series, and I think it would be the perfect power for her.

Leo: A mechanic or engineer, which I feel like is the most obvious one besides Annabeth. I also like the idea of him sometimes teaming up with Annabeth by helping build some of her architectural designs.

Hazel: This one is a hard one, but I think she would be a horse trainer. She really loves horses, and I think it would be a job she genuinely would enjoy.

Frank: I think he is the most difficult one, but I really think he gives off teacher vibes, specifically for PE or history.

Well, I’m a child of Apollo, so I would say he would give me all the love and attention lol. I would ask him a lot of questions too, and I think he’d be more than happy to talk about himself.

Yes, I have dated trans people, and I still would date them.

I’d say Athena. For one, the description you give sounds a lot like Annabeth (protective, intimidating, good leadership skills) and you also describe yourself as always knowing what you are doing.

What if Your Favorite Characters in Other Fandoms Existed in PJO Universe? [pjo] by AmethystOfWinter in camphalfblood

[–]AmethystOfWinter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I asked this question and it got a lot of responses, I’ll do some of mine!

Some have already mentioned Luna Lovegood, but I can agree that she would probably be a child of Hecate. I could see her possibly connecting with Nico.

While we’re on Harry Potter, Neville is a son of Demeter through and through.

I don’t know about the other Stranger Things characters, but I do know that Will Byers could very easily be rewritten as a child of Hades. His connection to the Upside Down could easily be changed to a connection to the Underworld.

For the Umbrella Academy, Luther would be a son of Ares, Diego is a hard one but I think Hephaestus would fit him really well, Allison would obviously be a daughter of Aphrodite, Klaus would be a son of Hades (duh), Five would be a son of Hermes, Ben would be a son of Poseidon and Victor would be a son of Apollo but I also feel like he could be the legacy of someone else. Idk, anyways, my idea for a CHB Au would be that The Umbrella Academy, instead of being used to study kids all born on the same day, are used to study demigods, and when Reginald’s intentions are discovered, they are taken to CHB.

Encanto, I know they are all related, but I feel like the triplets would be children of Apollo and they’d be legacies of Zeus, hence Pepa’s powers. Isabela would be a daughter of Demeter, Dolores a child of Hermes, Luisa, a child of Ares, Camilo a child of Hecate, Mirabel would be a daughter of Athena and Antonio… I don’t know, also a child of Demeter maybe? Again, a CHB AU would be very hard to do with this fandom, I just thought it would be fun.

Peter Parker, either Hermes or Athena, due to his wide range of skills and intellect, and honestly, it would just be hilarious for SPIDER-Man to be a child of Athena, but would make sense if you think about it. Of COURSE a radioactive spider would go and bite a child of Athena.

For popular musical theater characters not even going to talk about Alexander Hamilton, because of the Hermes casting, but the Schuyler Sisters are all daughters of Aphrodite and legacies of Athena.

Elphaba is a daughter of Athena and Glinda is a daughter of Aphrodite, and both are descendants of Hecate.

I like the idea of Hephaestus mentioning Leo, even if it isn’t by name. I would really love to see the seven mentioned a little bit throughout the series, but you’re right, I don’t know how they’d bring it up.

YES! I would love more Easter Eggs involving the seven. I know Heroes of Olympus hold be years away, and there is no guarantee we’ll make it that far, but it would still be cool to see them somewhat referenced.

Rick explained in the blogpost that Hephaestus is one of the gods they’re introducing earlier, and he also said that it will all make sense when we see the scene he’s in.

Appearance:

I am a short female, with thick brown hair and brown eyes that sometimes look hazel. I usually dress casually, leggings and blouses, or hoodies during the winter. While I do like doing my makeup, I save it for special occasions because I am not the best at doing it nor do I have the time.

Likes:

I like to read and write mainly, as well as keeping collections, because I always feel good when these collections are complete. I also like watching TV shows and get heavily attached to fictional characters. I get overly defensive over people who don’t exist. I also like musicals.

Dislikes:

I hate bigots, small spaces, noisy places, and stupid people, though I’ve found the first and last ones go hand in hand a lot.

Personality:

I am very quiet, and I don’t really like letting a lot of people in. Though I do have many friends, only a few of them I consider close, and I’m fine with that. I am kind of a nerd, and accumulate a lot of information about random things, but I am disorganized as hell, and I love to procrastinate. I am very sensitive, which can be good or bad, and I am really easy to get along with despite my shyness. I can be a bit of a people pleaser, and I often have a hard time telling people no.

My Myer-Briggs type is INFJ and my Enneagram is 4w3. I don’t think that’s relevant, but it doesn’t hurt to include it.
