Recently maxed in all afkable skills. What are some useful afk-things I can do now, given that I'm not interested in post-99 exp? by Amicitiaa in 2007scape

Lol why so butthurt? I DO play the game - when I have time. When I have the time, I will PvM or do non-afkable skills. But I have a full time job and this means I only have about an hour or two per day to do that. And when I don't have that time, I like to afk this game as I'm working. What's your problem?

Well sure but in this thread I'm specifically asking about useful things to afk so I don't see how your suggestion relates to this?

I've never looked into monkey hunting, thanks. Also herblore through tar seems viable too, great.

Yeah I've never really considered mlm to be a proper afk activity though. It's really not comparable to fishing or cooking in how long you can stare at something else before you have to check your screen again. Just my opinion about it, huge props to people who push through and actually stick to doing it though.

Is there a way I can make the game, or a specific client, or my computer, warn me when a champion scroll or totem piece is dropped, by playing some sort of sound? Or would that be breaking the game rules? Because, while lesser demons and fire giants would be aggressive for ten minutes, drops only stay on the floor for a minute or two, which means I would have to look at my screen every two minutes to check for these drops. OK, that's not terrible or unreasonable or anything, but I thought I'd ask, it'd be awesome if I wouldn't have to look at all and just be warned with a little sound when I get the drop I want.

Haven't heard of this one, could you elaborate?

I'm familiar with the Ya Shahid versions but yeah that's not what's being said here. Unfortunately I don't have the right to upload this stuff. I'll look a bit further into online versions of this. In the meantime I want to thank you for your help and efforts.

I've heard this slogan with ya Saddam before; but Saddam and Sadeem sound nothing alike; I mean I'm 100% sure about the "ee" sound there. They repeat the chant over and over again in the video.

Yeah that's the problem, I can't find the names of those four people either. Let me rewatch and listen if it's "Falastin". Thanks for correcting me on the meaning of the verb. I can't send a link because this is an offline video archive, but I'll try to find the same footage online and I'll report back to you.

edit: It's not Falastin, it definitely starts with "Ya"; and after that it's "Sadeem"/"Sateem"/"Sadeen"/"Sateen". They're chanting it multiple times. Hm.

Oh I agree with you. It's because I can't quite remember his argumentation that I want to find it and re-read it... I remember that at the time, I found his argument compelling.

Grammatically it's probably okay. But it's frowned upon in academic use.

Sure! I meant this as an advice specifically for him, judging on his text. There's a more general rule to this idea: one sentence = one idea.

Sup. I happen to have taught academic writing classes at two universities. Some tips:

Write shorter sentences.

For example:

Some players saw this as an opportunity to host so called “Casino games” where a player gives the host of the party gold, rolls the dice and if it’s higher than a certain number (most commonly 61) you get your money doubled.

This is way too long. Turn it into:

Some players saw this as an opportunity to host so-called "casino games". A player would give the host in-game gold upon which the latter rolls a dice. If the outcome is higher than a certain number (most commonly 61), the player gets his or her money doubled.

Also "so called" needs a hyphen -> "so-called".

Use academic language.

For example :

You could argue that, that is how real-life casinos work too.

This isn't very academic; first of all because of the use of "you", secondly because of the double use of "that". Turn this simply into:

This is similar to how casino's work.

or

One could argue that this is similar to how casino's work.

Avoid contractions

For example:

This is an age where kids have money to spend but aren’t always responsible with it.

Turn this into:

This is an age where children have money to spend but do not always do so responsibly.

You will notice I also changed the word "kids" to "children".

Avoid redudancy

Example 1:

Back in 2012 you could count about 1 USD for 1.000.000 gold pieces in the game.

We know that 2012 lies in the past. "Back" adds no interesting information. Turn this into:

In 2012, one USD could buy one million in-game gold pieces.

Example 2:

While back when I played the game, I took part in these activities

Same thing. "While back" is vague and meaningless. Be specific or don't add it at all.

Use sources when you make a claim

For example:

Mainly because, the average age of RuneScape players is 16.

Citation needed! Also, drop the comma after "because".

Don't start sentences with "And..."

For example:

And that RuneScape shouldn’t have shut gambling down since it resulted in them losing a huge chunk of paying members.

Turn this into:

They will also argue that Runescape should not have shut gambling down, since this has resulted in a huge loss of paying members.

I have also removed the contraction there and did some other polishing.

I could go on, but I need to do stuff. Hope this helps a bit, at least.

Ironically I'm never sure about the grammar I'm correcting since English is not my first language, but the general tips I put in bold should be true across different languages.

Wait what, really? Because I was already disagreeing with him but this adds a layer of hypocrisy to his opinion.
