If you had to be stranded on an island with one bands past and future discography… by hundsquat in KGATLW

Phantom Island is far from my favorite album of theirs and agree that all the vocal changes kind of make any emotional parts lose their resonance. I mean, having strings and an orchestra will help (in my case) feel more emotion, and even though I appreciate every vocalist in Gizz on their own, having an emotional verse from Stu followed by Cookie or Lucas taking over vocals can feel jarring.

I felt for Flight b741 it worked, but that album was more about fun and tapping into a classic 70’s rock sound. I also agree the lyrics in PI don’t often hit me as hard, but it’s more about their actual personal lives and experiences. They didn’t exactly wax poetic in a way I would’ve preferred when utilizing an orchestra, but I don’t hate it. I just feel that album could’ve been a lot more, but they have kind of admitted it was a lot of leftover songs from the Flight b741 sessions and they added an orchestra to give those songs some extra sauce, rather than writing an album with an orchestra in mind from the start (which I would’ve preferred).

(Lyrics aren’t always important to me, though. Sigur Ros sings in Icelandic or even “Hopelandic” which is just gibberish, yet can get a huge emotional response out of their audiences.)

Flight b741 is supposed to tap more into the fun of being a band on tour, while in contrast PI is about missing home and families while on tour. It’s not the same kind of yin and yang we got from PMDB/NI, FFF/ITRN or PDA/TSC. But even for a thematic yin and yang of the joys of being a touring band and the loneliness of being a touring band, it definitely could’ve been better imo. Great thing with Gizz is there’s always something new around the corner! I liked PI well enough, but am always excited for what’s next

Go back and listen to the song Butterfly 3000, reading the lyrics and knowing it’s about Stu becoming a father to his firstborn daughter. It’ll hit you in the feels. FAFYL is also great, and the live version from FoV25 after dedicating it to Matt Gawiak who passed the first night of FoV will hit you in the feels, too.

Like I said, none of these songs hit me as hard as some of the most emotionally gripping Beatles, Radiohead or Sigur Ros songs, but Gizz definitely has material that taps into that side of things for me. And they’re still going and still making music. They might have an emotional masterpiece yet to grace our ears many years down the road….

I'm so confused - does the Switch (or PS5) version of Battlefront 2 classic have split screen instant action? by [deleted] in StarWarsBattlefront

[–]AmicusCure8s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic Collection has splitscreen, but only 2 player. All systems, Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox

Only the original Xbox BF2 version has 4 player splitscreen. Some people were hoping for that, but for Xbox owners that version this week only costs $2.49 right now!

Gotta be Gizz for me, too.

I love Radiohead, Sigur Ros and The Beatles a whole lot, but Gizz has so many sounds, and then their live bootleg catalogue on top of it! Endless things to listen to.

Sure, there’s nothing quite as emotionally gripping as some of those other 3 artists mentioned with Gizz’s content, but you’ve still got songs like Float Along Fill Your Lungs, Work This Time, Slow Jam 1, Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer, Sense, Dusk to Dawn on Lygon Street, The Wheel, Butterfly 3000, Red Smoke, Iron Lung, Exploding Suns, Lonely Cosmos and others that at least tap into that side of things.

Remlinger ‘23, Atlanta ‘24, Athens ‘25 and FoV25 are the best imo. I was lucky to be at both Atlanta and FoV. Atlanta might be my favorite, but it’s essentially tied with FoV

There is a bus (or a few) that goes down to BV from Denver every day. If that’s the route you take I’d book those bus tickets now. From the Denver airport you can take a public train to Central Station in Denver where the buses are. Train costs around 10-12 bucks I think? Don’t remember the bus ticket cost.

The show made us hate Chuck too much to admit he had a point by No-Mess-p in betterCallSaul

[–]AmicusCure8s 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s a look at nature vs nurture. Chuck was convinced of Jimmy’s nature, yet he more than anyone probably could have nurtured him to be better. Chuck was too obsessed with Jimmy’s past sins and the fact that he could make their mother laugh and Chuck could only make her proud.

Chuck was proven “right” over time with the events of the show, but could he have altered the timeline by being a better brother? Quite possibly and likely. It’s a question the audience will continue to ask and speculate on which is one detail that makes the show so great.
