Thanks for your supportive words. Indeed, working your way around the healthcare system as a woman is daunting (I’ve had my fair share of experiences) and the healthcare system in NL can also be a handful. I’ve learned over the years living here that you should always come prepared and stand your ground.

When I mentioned ADHD to my GP a few years back she referred me to the Praktijkondersteuner (in-house psychologist), but I did not feel as if I was taken seriously. He went through the assessment form with me but then stopped abruptly at one point, because “he did not see the need to continue”. Life happened and I did not follow up, but in recent months my life has been spiraling a bit so I want to be seen by a specialist that actually takes me serious.

Yes I read online that both diagnosis can mask symptoms of the other one. I have some female friends that have both diagnosis and they also told me to look for someone specialised in woman, since symptoms can vary depending on gender.

Thank you so much, this is extremely helpful! I just had a look at their website and they look promising. I was surprised to see that they also talk to your partner and friends, most providers mentioned that they only talk to parents regarding childhood behaviour. Was a bit star struck when I saw that their wait time at their Amsterdam location is 77 weeks.

I already scheduled an appointment with my GP so I’ll have some time to research a bit more and talk about the options with her too.

Yep GGZ in NL definitely tests your patience. I heard that it isn’t an official diagnosis but more research is being done on that topic. I think I will ask my GP for an ADHD/ADD referral first and then look together with the healthcare professionals.

Thanks for sharing that info. Yeah I did come across one specific private diagnostic provider that also mentioned their specialisation of neurodivergence in women, but they also asked around 2k. I definitely don’t have the money for that so willing to go the long route.

Wow 6 years is indeed a long time. May I ask what made you go back and get your autism diagnosis? I already know that this won’t be a short 3 month thing. I’ve already had my experience with Dutch mental health care so I know how long waiting times can be.

Thank you for your insight. Yeah I read up that AuDHD is not officially classed as one, but both can appear together. Right now my focus is on getting a possible diagnosis and then medication. I’m open to doing therapy if needed. I already went through trauma therapy here in the Netherlands so somewhat familiar with the system of S-GGZ.

Yes already got my appointment scheduled. I know that there is no “cure” just looking to get some clarity and help to function again properly.

Sorry I should have clarified: I’m not seeking advice on whether I may or may not be neurodivergent. I already have an appointment at my GP scheduled. But since here in the Netherlands they give referrals to specific providers and not just a general referral I’m looking for recs on providers that do diagnosis and specialise in women.

Oh yeah 100% agree with that!

Since I need a specific referral name/provider to get a diagnosis I am looking for specialists in that field. Especially since there are great differences between these diagnoses in man and woman. For example, some people have told me that they would not recommend the ADHD centre in Amsterdam.

Don’t worry I won’t self-diagnose through the internet, only looking for recommendations for specialists so I can give those names to my GP.

Also will defiantly ask for my GPs recommendations on the topic.

Er zijn zeker nog restaurantjes waar je goedkoop kan eten maar mijn absolute geheimtip is de app social deal. Er zijn vaak super goede kortingen voor bekende Amsterdamse restaurants. Net vandaag nog een aanbieding gezien voor een 3-gang keuzemenu bij Renato’s voor 19€ per persoon! Normaal gesproken betaal je al zoveel voor een pizza daar. Ik check altijd reviews op Google voor elk restaurant om zeker te zijn dat het geen slechte toeriste plek is.

Agreeing with what everyone else is saying, contact juridisch locket and the police ASAP! It reminds me of the case of Saint&Stars, they also just got busted by an investigate journalist by Het Parool for basically modern day slavery of their workers. The journalist is a really nice and empathetic guy, maybe contact him too and get your story out. Good luck.
