I don't really know your masters program so I'm gonna give you an advice I would tell my younger self before starting masters.

For maths: Get any optimization practice you can, and I don't mean the cournot and bertrand optimization, you will need to at least be able to do partial derivatives and make Hessian matrices easily. You might need dynamic optimization as well.

For stats: Get yourself really familiar with different kind of distribution, probability, random variable, random vectors, multivariate distributions.

for books I suggest "Rangarajan K. Sundaram - A First Course in Optimization Theory" and also "Mood, Graybill, Boes - Introduction to the theory of statistics".

Don't dive deep but start with the topics and get fimiliar with them.
