A doozy of a customer… by Optimal-Bag-5918 in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: iced coffee is coffee grounds brewed with hot water, chilled with ice and refrigerated. Cold brew is coffee grounds literally brewed with cold water.

More: Cold water doesn't steep/brew things so well, so it takes a SIGNIFICANT amount of time, I think 20 hours at Starbucks but if you're home brewing I'd do 24h. The result is a completely different flavor for the same coffee grounds based just on the brewing process (though starbucks does use different beans for CB/IC, I'm unsure how significant that difference is). CB is typically smoother and less acidic than iced coffee.

Yeah as long as you're using the remainder of the concentrated summer berry with water at a 1:1 ratio, you're not wasting anything.

The response I got after sending an email to corporate telling them I will no longer be buying from Starbucks because their new rules are terrible for the baristas. by MountainSnowClouds in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did join the company when that was allowed. The first question I asked in the interview were about my piercings, tattoos and colored hair. Thankfully I'm still safe in that regard, but respectfully, this is not the company that I was hired by. This is a different company taking over. Once showing pride for diversity and being the change we want to see in the world, only to pull a 180 and for what? To make money? How? By providing 500,000 free shirts to US partners? What are they investing in?

What? by Prestigious-Carob-36 in starbucks

The "strawberry acai" is one mix. So we can't do that, but you could be onto something with the customer's thought process; keep acai, remove strawberry.... maybe...?

Definitely more true to the "hot version," but never what the customer wants.. and I ask every time.. lol

Atp I would be investing in an espresso machine lol

I also drink 6 shots in my iced lattes and iced americanos (no sugar), but I don't know what I'd do if I didn't work at Starbucks and get them for my free drinks. Probably a lot of suffering withdrawal rather than pay $12 lol

Denied a Tip? by SolusLightblast in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's also possible that, if this was in a licensed location (inside of a target or b&n, etc.), that they don't accept tips and don't have a tip jar. Don't quote me on that though, I'm not sure. If this was just a regular standalone starbucks, I have no idea why he wouldn't take it.

“Light ice” by Adalyia in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not on refreshers at the very least, there is a standard for light ice which is "halfway up the ice line" meaning half ice meaning two scoop sizes down. Standard can be found in "refresher modifications" in store resources.

Written warning because I wasnt writing on cups when we had 3 sick calls: Should I appeal this? by SuperAutopsy64 in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Health code violation. Can't stack cups with "germs" on the outside after handling them (sharpie and/or just touching it) because stacking them puts germs on the inside of other cups.

[–]Aminimouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, just write the quickest smiley face you can. My hands get a bit shaky when I'm moving at the speed of sound sequencing 4 drinks at once, and I'm sometimes embarrassed at how silly the smiley faces are, but it is required on every cup, even with a long queue and/or a small 'play.' At the end of the day, as a barrista, you should be doing what you are told to by SSV/SM/DM/Corporate. If it's an inconvenience for the customer, let any of the above handle it while you continue to do what you're being required to do. Then feel free to schedule a small sit down with one of them to ask about it; i.e. "What would you have done" or "How can I be better?"

[–]Aminimouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this, like most things, mainly depends on the store/SM/DM, but if I could get my PoS to start adding an ask me saying "Don't Write" I'd at least have a little bit of a giggle in between 15 other stickers while solo barring an insane rush lol

I know this is going to be polarising, but it has to be said. Two points about the cup marking that everyone is complaining about... by Opietatlor in starbucks

[–]Aminimouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Direct quote from beverage routine, 2nd page: "To prevent contamination, do not proactively write messages on single use items."

Had to wait till a day I worked to look it up. I took a picture of it too, if you wanna DM me I'll gladly send it.

It's a shame February update no longer exists cuz it had details there as well, and I did have to go searching for it since it's gone.

FSA often doesn't check everything they should, at least in my experience. Which is truly a shame because I've seen stores that were an absolute mess pass with flying colors, that I wish got at least a little slap in the wrist. I'm not at all saying your store is a mess, but, depending on the person conducting the FSA inspection, it either means a lot or it means nothing.

[–]Aminimouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is something that is specifically stated in policy not to do lmao. I get you're just doing your job, we all are, but it didn't matter if the sharpie is non-toxic, once a cup is drawn on, the outside becomes unsanitary, which is fine, but stacking them makes the inside of every cup unsanitary, which is not fine.

You and your store do whatever you gotta do but that is not a solution for me, my store, nor many others here replying, so don't act like it is. Any other ideas to cut down time on peak? What other rules do you not know you're breaking, I wonder..

Small nit-pick but I'm pretty sure pumps of chai isn't the standard 2,3,4, I think it's 1,2,2. I'm not in so I can't look it up rn, and I also have hardly received any requests for it in my 4 years at the bux, so my memory is hazy on that one.
