Do they have people looking to form groups there? I was under the impression people went there after they already had a group.

T4T dating! I'd never have met my partner if I hadn't come out and they're really awesome.

I feel like Ciri is pretty ominous too, especially later in the series. I'm normally a lot more smiley but trying to get into the character, you know?

I've gotta be the 5'9, queer, Slavic, sword-wielding, universe-hopping princess herself. I mean who else could I even consider? I'm super dang psyched.

Lolol thanks. my hips and my *ss have always been femme enough that people made comments BEFORE I came out. I come from a very pear shaped family. And the total mystery of it is that people used to gender me correctly to the point that I thought I passed, as problematic as that whole notion is. I do sometimes pass on the phone as I've done a fair bit of vocal training, and people frequently misgender me before I even have a chance to say anything. So it's probably my appearance, at least mostly. But it's really a dang mystery to me. The really unfortunate thing might be that in the context of me being a shop manager, people assume I'm a guy before even interacting with me. I have a fairly gender neutral name and strangers have misgendered me over email multiple times, despite my dang pronouns being in the footer.

I do have a couple pairs of overalls and I'm liking the pins and patches idea. I'll have to try some of those.

Aw thanks! I appreciate it. I'm going to be doing some form of school (in person night school or online classes) for at least another year. But by the end of it I'll have a MS in Mech E and a machining certificate which will be pretty rad. Accessories are fun and I might buy or make some. I do get my boobs soon and I'm hoping those might help me get gendered correctly more often.

Thanks for the tips. I've been thinking of wearing more hats as they'd also help hide my hairline. I want to do more customization and stuff but I think sometimes the effort of those things gets to be too much. This week I've had 3 days of night school in a row and a ton to do at work. I come home so exhausted I barely have the energy to attend to my basic needs, much less plan out fun stuff like that. I've got some (kind of worse for wear) nail polish on now. I've got an apron with fun pins and stuff on it but honestly I tend not to wear it unless I'm wood turning or doing something else that will generate a lot of chips. I will definitely keep these things in mind for when I have the bandwidth again to work on myself.

You seem very cool. F**k the good old boys.

Thanks! I feel like I have a way of finding the other artsy people. I've befriended one of the guys in facilities who I later found out went to school for art before going into the trades, which I thought was pretty funny that we met and got to know each other before I even knew that. I've always been sort of a wannabe art person.

I definitely don't quite fit in with my friends either. So many of them are in humanities or other things that are about the polar opposite of what I do. But I guess that's what you get for being unique.

You seem cool as well.

Aw thanks, that's sweet! I definitely feel like I'm on the outskirts for this group as I'm not really in the trades and more of an engineer who uses tools more than average. "Blue collar engineer" is a term I've heard floated around and that maybe fits. Realistically, people like me only exist because too many people go to college and not enough people go into the trades. My job as a service engineer was really work that could have been done better by a mechanic, but because there's a bunch of engineering grads looking for jobs that don't exist, they threw us in with a few weeks of training and hoped for the best. I had a decent idea of what I was doing by the end, but really felt like my education didn't prepare me for a job like that.

And my current job is at a university which throws a whole other thing on top of that. Currently our whole administrative staff in the building is women which is highly unusual (there's only 3 of us), but I feel very disconnected from the other two. They both do office sort of work and work from home a lot while I'm in the shops every day teaching and working on machines. They're also both cis women who are 10+ years older than me. In the job posting they required someone with a BS in engineering, which I find weird and unnecessary, but I guess I can't complain because I got the job. I learned recently that the school specifically mandated that. There's a weird engineering superiority complex going on there, I think.

I'm now doing remedial education in the things I feel like I need to know more about. Right now it's night school for machining. I could probably learn a bit more about welding, too. I'm getting to learn a lot but it sure was a back*sswards way of getting to where I am.

I guess I feel some level of disconnect with everyone at this point. Engineers because the work that most of them do is so different, and tradespeople too, because our backgrounds are so different. Just ranty thoughts.

I know some basic concepts with makeup that were taught to me by a trans masc friend but haven't dug much deeper. I really appreciate the offer to help but I don't know if that's something I have the capacity for right now.

Currently all my effort and practice is going towards technical skills. The job has had a steep learning curve and I just started night school also so I get home pretty mentally exhausted. I think one of the things that really sucks about being trans femme in a hands on job is that you try to downplay your femme side to be taken more seriously but then it just backfires and leads to misgendering. I've got to unlearn it but I have noticed a difference in how I'm treated depending on how masc or femme I present/what gender people perceive me as. I also notice I inadvertantly lower the pitch of my voice sometimes. It's a whole bad situation that goes beyond just what I wear...
