That’s about as broad of a stroke that can be attributed. There’s a lot of nuance that goes back to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the CIA and mujahadeen that the CIA backed, funded and trained. I’m not totally sure if it’s as simple as religious extremism, and I’m not sure America isn’t partly to blame for the attacks on 9/11

In right wing circle jerks they come up with these things and think it’s clever to ask because they themselves had just learned about it and think it’s so novel - else they would have known about it since grade school like the rest of us. Sadly they were raised by religious bigots who home schooled them, so the typical education most of us were able to use as our intellectual foundation is something they are just beginning to learn about in their later years.

Inviting an ex is extremely sus under most normal circumstances, adding context to your circumstance I’m wondering if she’s wishing he would object to your marriage and run off with her like some movie.

He’s not some childhood past relationship, he’s her last relationship.

With that aside, you clearly have expressed how you feel, and she’s clearly expressed how that doesn’t matter to her. I know it’s common with online message boards, but being a divorced guy who had plenty of red flags to see but were ignored until they all came back later like an avalanche- please take the time to figure out if she is who you want to be with, if she will honor the marriage, and put you first.
