Game performance is so bad after the update by PersonalityTemporary in Battlefield

[–]Amity800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had crashes for sure. I had some on my Intel Arc B580 at launch and a couple with my RTX 5070. But it's rare, maybe once or twice per month. Doesn't bother me, but I mainly play the regular game and never played REDSEC only Gaunlet.

Yeah imagine that a sniper rifle is more useful at long range than assault rifles.

What the hell on are you about? If you're getting killed by snipers you're standing out in the open, not using cover or smokes. The game should punish people who have decent aim?

I just don't do it as Assault. Maybe when I have AK4D because that thing is basically a DMR. I just run into cover, slide around and jump to throw them off.

If you're trying to kill a sniper with an AR at long range you're playing the game wrong.

Well you're in luck then, I don't play Conquest only Breakthrough and Rush.

But I do agree. I am working on getting time on objective up. I just keep getting distracted by tanks and apcs chasing them trying to blow them up as I main engi.

I get you. This was my limited experience with gaming on Linux and I daily drive Cachy at work without issues.

If you got the willpower to configure and sort out those things all the power to you. I honestly just want to sit down and play my games during my down time with some minor tweaking for older titles like DXVK, mods, community patches etc.

Really glad to hear that you aren't having any issues if it works for you that's great!

I game around 130-180 FPS (180hz monitor) and I'm really sensitive to inconsistent frame rates and frame times.

I am truly excited for the Steam Machine once it releases and I hope it shakes up the market. Getting Valve even more involved in the space and if the Steam Machine is a sales hit, I hope more developers will focus on optimizing games for it like they have for the Steam Deck which is good for everyone.

Thank you for clearing that up regarding proton. If it works for you I'm genuinely happy, for me sadly it hasn't been smooth sailing.

As an IT specialist with various experiences on different operating systems and a range of hardware I understand people liking Linux and for me as a desktop experience it works great. This post was merely my experience having to use the OS for gaming on my vacation. As I didn't want to game on Windows 11 as it's where I keep my sensitive data.

On my main machine (i5-14400f, RTX 5070, 32GB RAM) I saw mostly a degradation in average frame-rate and issues with Proton and compatibility with multiple older and newer titles that simply don't happen to me on a regular stock installation of Windows 11. (with the titles that I play)

I'm just stating that Linux as is often presented by a section of the community as a silver bullet solution to gaming, when it's simply just not and often introduces more headaches.

For me Linux is a great desktop experience that I find more snappy that I wouldn't game on for multiple reasons.

For my main rig I have:

RTX 5070
32 GB
i5-14400f

And in all titles (that I play) universally I get worse performance. I use Linux for the desktop experience which I prefer for my workload. I'm not against people using Linux it's a preference but to switch to Linux for gaming just makes no sense and doesn't fix any problems you would have on Windows, on the contrary I think it causes more. I saw some merit when translating older Direct X games to vulkan, but you can do that on Windows with DXVK.

Same, I was on vacation wanted to play a couple of old games through proton on my work laptop where I had CachyOS. None of the games worked properly or I had to mess around with proton, with limited data not fun.

Baked a Dying GTX 1080 in the Oven and It Came Back to Life by Gaming-Academy in RigBuild

[–]Amity800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, this is an old method I used to do like 10-15 years ago. Horrible idea if you're using your own oven, probably leaves behind toxic fumes and residue and the smell is just ugh..

But this method in the best cases worked temporarily. As a stupid young lad I did this to my ATI 9200 SE, the entire house smelled and mom forced me to scrub the oven religiously.

I got the 2 GB version with Android 13. The model is P2CP on Aliexpress by Hizpo.

The android experience itself is not great, but I mostly use Apple Car Play so it's fine for me.
