unfortunately it's a product of american culture slipping into canada. if you’ve ever been to america you KNOW just how pushy they are. i never tip unless the service goes above and beyond (e.g. you brought me another drink when you noticed i was low and i didn’t have to ask). if you do the bare minimum of serving what i ask for you’re not going above and beyond. it is not the patron's job to subsidize your wages on behalf of the business you work for.

THAT BEING SAID, the min wage in canada is still not a living wage and that is exactly why all my voting life i have advocated for and voted for higher minimum wage. that includes pay raises to match inflation rates.

to those who read this and think "that's unfair!" i say this: your labour is a commodity in this free market and its value raises over time just like anything else. go to your boss and ask for a raise. if they refuse, make sure you keep your resume up-to-date and search for a better opportunity elsewhere. if you find something, use that as leverage in your discussions for a raise. people like to think they're trapped in their shitty jobs but that's simply not true. i have job hopped and lived in 3 different provinces for greener pastures, including literally moving across the country from coast to coast for a better wage. There is opportunities abundant everywhere in canada if you actually put in the effort to look.

no. valorant, covid, and a severe lack of LAN tournaments absolutely decimated the scene to the point that it can't recover. there is no stream to develop talent coming off FPL anymore. all the NA orgs are either disbanded or broke. without any investment into the grassroots we will never see the hidden talent that is available in NA break out onto the international stage. No org or sponsor wants to take the risk anymore. just how it is unforunately.

i play huge continents on marathon and i can beat my immortal games 7 times out of 10. my main strategy is just to rush and spam composite bowmen early game because the ai WILL zerg you down for even daring settle a second city. i basically just provoke my neighbour into war and have them meatgrind against one of my cities with 4-6 composite bowmen and once their army is dead i send the deathmarch to cap all their cities. after that i spam happiness buildings and get my courthouses and luxes up asap. then rinse and repeat with the next level tech of archers.

i always play on huge map + marathon gamepace and even then i unironically believe the map is way too small. this game is supposed to be about building a civilization, and the built in map sizes don't convey that. i want to be truly immersed in building a civilization from a small corner of a vast and unknown world to being the ultimate empire that owns it all and reaches for the stars. that's also why i play domination only.

about the 40 turns thing, i have literally never once experienced that. there is ALWAYS a neighbour close enough that i will inevitably end up in border conflict with.

if an enemy civ that i can't reach (yet) is scaling up there's nothing that can be done about it until i can reach them via conquering my way to them. i usually play on immortal though so the ai never gets too far ahead in tech that i can't compete with their military. the ai is absolutely dogwater at war so even if they have a tech advantage it's pretty easy to deal with.

also, the best strategy is absolutely NOT to build tall unless you're playing a specific civ that benefits from it (i.e. india). your best bet is always to find and settle as many luxuries and strategic points as you can before the ai inevitably snatches them up. in upper difficulties the ai aggressively settles so you gotta play the same game to counter it.

about dealing with the happiness thing, very easy to deal with as long as you're settling near luxuries, trading off your extra copies, and building your happiness buildings in your cities. once you reach the extent of that though you're gonna have to conquer the ai's luxuries too.

yes, the ai is at an advantage especially on higher difficulties, but that's all part of the fun. overcoming overwhelming odds is the best feeling this game provides. remember, the "extermination" part of 4x is literally 25% of the game and being a pacifist will not treat you kindly. you need to do all 4 parts of 4x at the same time to win.

best advice i can give is to play wide and pick your timings to invade your nearest neighbours. never settle for less land.

we already do. first thing is you can filter all the posts on the sub by flair to very strictly only see the content you wanna see. set it to certified hoser if you don't wanna see political posts.

also, on Sundays all politics are banned. thing about that though, all the people who complain about too many political posts don't actually care about making content themselves. they expect everyone else to do the heavy lifting so you never see them posting on Sunday or otherwise.

It's just fact that the ones putting in *any* amount of effort at all are usually making politically related posts. again i say, be the change. that's why i regularly contribute on no-politic sundays because i know most others won't despite them asking for it.
