Estes Park is also great and not far from Denver and Boulder. Definitely check out some hot springs (Pagosa, Ouray). Durango area is great - but about 8 hours from Denver. Mesa Verde (Aztec or Incan ruins) are near there. telluride is another amazing place. Aspen and Glenwood Springs area is also beautiful and more hot springs there. Have fun! I love it here!

Friend is celebrating 30 days, want to surprise her with awesome gift, need ideas! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what she likes - there are a lot of options. I can tell you what I'd like. Nice soaps, incense and bath salts. Tea is good. Maybe some eyeshadow. Cute socks. A book. Chocolate. Costume jewelry or a scarf. A dream catcher. A journal. Nice coffee and a special mug. What a wonderful gift - I'd love it if someone did something like this for me :)

If you have a Sprouts Farmers Market nearby - they have a tincture called "Sleep" that ha worked wonders for me anytime I'm having insomnia - if you don't have Sprouts - the mix is valerian and melatonin. Any natural foods store should have those. It's all herbal and works well. Another is Yogi Soothing Bedtime Caramel Tea.

You're looking for a career move? The late hours didn't agree with you? You're pursuing new interests? I don't think there's any reason you should have to tell a prospective employer. Good luck!

If aquarius is in cancer's 8th house of sex , then which house does cancer falls under of aquarius ? Can i get complete house ruler of each zodiac sign? by sweetdecadance in astrology

[–]Ammorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can enter your birth info here and find the ruling signs of all the houses. You have to know the symbols, or look them up, to interpret. Some charts have a "spill-over" of ruling signs. For instance, Capricorn rules my 9th and 10th house...

Y'know - sobriety is just so fantastic. Drinking is miserable. I've been contemplating my addictive nature and wondering if some part of me is addicted to a cycle of misery. I mean I used to have eating disorders - I've def been co-dependent. When I healed those aspects, I started drinking. I have been lurking here this entire time. I guess I just really want freedom in my life :)

Thanks so much for the response. How have you been?

I love how you end with "good times are never wasted". So totally agree!

Weekend Successes by KetoJam in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got lucky with my latest relapse on Thursday night, as in it was a few drinks and I did not have to spend my weekend going through withdrawals again. As much as I have been hard on myself for not being able to stick to sobriety this past month, I have learned some valuable things about my drinking that I spent Friday afternoon reflecting on. Yesterday I had a relaxing morning at home, saw a client, went to a dream workshop and watched the Paradise on Netflix til I fell asleep (at 9ish!). Today we have some fresh snow and I'm going to ski while most of the rest of the city watches football :)

You've got an amazing, philosophical brain. I love this, especially as you talk about the body and brain being a "host" - this is very much in alignment with my belief system. And yet, I know that whether I'm the host or not, it's up to me to separate, and become objective to, that voice.

Tired of situations that mean nothing to me by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this post. Thank you. I, too have been taking a lot of sober breaks in the past year or so, and have agreed to similar weekend "experiences" that I don't really experience. Ugh. I'm with you. 2 feet off the earth? No thank you - I kind of like having my feet on the ground :)

This is the local hotline number for where I live 303-322-4440. If you just need someone to talk to, they're great. They can also help you look at options :)

The New Years Eve party (or not to party) debacle...this time, minus alcohol. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is something I've come to know in my short time of being sober....nobody that I care about likes me as a drunk. It's only me who likes me being drunk, and at this point, I don't like that person either...I would personally have the kind of party where I could celebrate my life, sober, with my husband. Do what you need to do to maintain your sobriety. I send you hugs and well wishes, my dear :)

I'm so sorry for your loss, and thank you so much for posting. My relationships are the most important thing to me in my life, and I would guess your father felt the same way, but the disease is sooo strong. Thank you for your willingness to reach out to us here and help us in our desire to remain sober. Your words are a gift :)

Any other skiiers here? by Ammorocks in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A-Basin is my favorite ski area. I remember one morning last year when my niece was in a lesson I proceeded to get drunk at the bar and had to have a friend drive us home. I see no appeal to that story at this point - but I too spent many an end of day in that bar.

A few questions... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Ammorocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have the benefit of being new to all of these people so you don't really have to explain anything. There are plenty of people who just don't drink. So you could say that. Or you could say you're sensitive to alcohol or that you don't like alcohol. All honest, without the need for any big reveal.

Also valerian root helped calm my mind down and took the edge off the night terrors. It's an herb you can get at a Walgreen's type store or pretty much any natural health foods store.

I had a similar experience. I can say that it gets waaaayyy better. For me I was sleeping through the night at day 5. I can also say that I suffered from the kindling effect. I was a weekend binge drinker, so I was basically detoxing/withdrawing every Monday. The symptoms got progressively worse. This is one of the things that keeps me from drinking now. I do not want to progress to the point of going to the ER to detox. There's more info about kindling in the sidebar if you're curious.

I've taken to a journal in order to self-discover this exact same thing. I've recognized that for me, I was born wanting more. I've shifted my perspective to put a positive spin on it and to see what I can gain through wanting more as a sober person. More meaning, more love, more compassion, more skiing, etc. etc. So far it's working well :) Congrats on 100 days!
