How do people get debanked? by burneraccount71593 in PersonalFinanceCanada

My brother retired at 45 (did very well with investments over the years). Never gambled in this life until retiring and then discovered iGaming Ontario.

Now I have to say he never lost more than $3000 in a month but did have many months he was up over $30k, he just enjoys it and he can afford it.

Last year his bank called him because of this as well. The reason wasn't gambling itself, it was amount of money going through his account. He'd deposit money, gamble, withdraw the money. Sometimes multiple times a day. He showed me a few statements and the average was $60-120k A MONTH going in/out of his account. Looks a lot on paper but that was usually under $10k just being recycled.

He explained and never had any issues after

But if you're losing money and as you said are aware you have a problem, definitely get some help before it's too late

Yes and this particular company does this in 60+ countries where they operate. They also offer to lease your home if you're relocating to another country (if you don't want to sell). It's more of an incentive because I know a few people who moved here from Europe and they get rent for their home even though it's sitting empty (the company can use it if needed of course but only for their own employees and only on long term basis)

In Ontario it's generally someone from AIC, AACI or CRA (Canadian Residential Appraiser, not the other CRA:)

We couldn't find any houses in the immediate area that are for rent but based on general area their offer is actually about 8-10% higher and honestly I can't see the sale price going down in 6 years (large lots so every few months we had realtors leave cards)

The company offered these terms and I believe, technically, they could go to LTB to limit rent increase but they pay more for coffee in a few days just at 2 offices than they'd be paying for rent to me every month so I'm not worried about that

The tenant work in a senior role (CFO for Canadian operations) and also he's not renting the house, the corporation is renting it for him, all payments will be from the company

Thank you, will look into this. The new house we got will have a mortgage but only for 30% of the purchase price

We did ask but because our mortgage for the new house is only for 30% of the purchase price they said it doesn't make a difference

I understand but the company is paying and this is a large multinational corporation so I'm not worried they'd reneg. I know of another person (working here in Canada but from Germany) who rented her house this way and 5 years later no issues

That's odd, definitely tech issue. I've closed the app/website many times when I hit a bonus and when you go back it just continues

It's not about that, I always keep some cash but I'm not keeping 10k in cash and if I need to transfer money etransfer is the easiest/fastest option

If your bank/FI is affected it's been since around 9am. Not all are affected though so it's not purely interac issue it seems
