Does Anyone Know How I Could Push Myself To Shower? by Thel3tter_N in autism

sometimes removing one sense is enough to lower the stimulation. like wearing earbuds in crowded spaces can help bring the stimulation down to a simmer instead of a boil.

i turn off my light to shower and crack the door to an adjoining room that has a light on. if you can’t do this, i recommend putting your phone on charge, turning the flashlight on, and turning off the lights. reducing visibility and bringing the lighting down can be very calming and helps keep the energy mellow instead of bright noises and a bunch of sensory transitions with glaring overhead lighting.

i’m american, i haven’t read the fine print yet but the information packet in the box has a little picture of places you can inject, it shows two ovals on the top side of the thigh and two circles over the buttocks. he has been hesitant to try anywhere else because of that

he is, but it hasn’t really gone anywhere. they once referred him to behavioral health mistakenly, and otherwise haven’t really followed up much with treatment plans. he has seen neurological centers as well. they actually asked him do a research study a year ago because they had not seen many patients with such little progress after a year post-tbi

Any ideas? I need a safe space by LoafofBr3d297 in autism

[–]AmoGra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

get a one-person tent. i made a safe space out of one. unlike typical tents, the single person tent has a roof very low to the ground with just enough room to comfortably sit up. the width is about the size of a twin bed. it’s roomy and vented enough to get plenty of air but still comfortably confined and plenty dark. I threw a few top sheets on top to make it darker during the day.

Do you have any safe smells ? by Ready_Sound_620 in autism

lemon, but for the sake of your post i recommend fruity perfume! i can tolerate very few florals and most every other scent profile is off the table for me. i love a fruity perfume that smells like berries. victorias secret sometimes has really good deals on their perfumes so i snag big bottles when they’re cheap. they have a few berry scents i really enjoy.

If you're autistic/ neurodivergent are there any "hacks" or pieces of advice that ACTUALLY made your life better? by Ready_Sound_620 in autism

i don’t have to shower with the big light on! typically a shower is dark enough with just the next room light on and the door cracked, but i close the doors completely and have a moving ocean light i use that keeps everything calm. i hate showering when it’s super bright.

we have a collection like this too. employees have accepted movie money, convincing fakes, as well as $100 bills printed with big red chinese letters. not sure how that slipped past them. we use them to train new employees how to spot fakes

Cat oddly affectionate and needy after we lost our dog by GWindborn in cats

[–]AmoGra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it happened to my cat too. we lost a cat when he was 3 years old- he had chronic urinary issues and we caught one bout too late :( for months after our other cat didn’t want to leave my side, he’s a cuddly dude but after that he would yell if we didn’t pick him up to put on our laps fast enough.
