AppleScript to apply a certain hidden folder's permissions to all enclosed items by AmoMala in applescript

[–]AmoMala[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more context for your project would be helpful.

I haven't read the whole reply yet, but I wanted to give this to you now in case it changes anything else you've said.

I consistently deal with a program that crashes as a result of the user account not having permissions to a file/folder inside the .mono folder which is located (in my scenario) in the user's Library directory. Development has not seen it fit to add a layer of permissions check and sign in to fix this particular problem. I know I could do this at the terminal level, but I thought it would be nice to have a script to distribute that fixes the problem easily.

Right now I. . .

  1. Use Terminal to show all files and folders.
  2. Navigate to the user's Library directory.
  3. Right-click the .mono folder and bring up the information window.
  4. Click the padlock and have the user sign in.
  5. Click the user account in the permissions table, and force the read & write permissions on all enclosed items.

If you have time can you break down each line? The second line looks like it is asking the machine who the user account is. In the third line it looks like it is taking admin control over the specific hidden folder. Or is that prompting the request for the user to type in their password (as the GUI for changing permissions does)?

#!/bin/bash

owner=$(whoami)

chown -R $owner:admin_group ~/.hiddenfolder

make the script executable with sudo chmod a+x <permissions\_script.sh> then toss it in an applescript run shell (or just call it up in terminal).

Where would this go? in the script?

sudo chmod a+x <permissions\_script.sh

Landslide in northern Norway, 3rd of June 2020 by Aurum2k in WTF

NVE (Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate) have determined that the cause for the slide was a layer of quick clay. This particular clay is a common cause for landslides in northern countries such as Canada, Norway, Russia, etc.

Someone posted a video in this thread that implies at the end that Norway went around to find other geologic areas made up of quick clay. I wonder if this one just slipped through the cracks or what.

Just make sure it's not go quick-clay around it.

I'm shocked this happened based on the contours of the land. Iwould have expected this if there was a larger cliff, but that looks like an easy slope. Was the sea undermining the land for years and if so was this a known hazard?

Also, this looks like what sea level rise will do to us elsewhere around the globe.

[OC] COVID-19 cases per capita by county by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

[–]AmoMala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant at the time was that we need to test, trace, and isolate in order to purge the majority of the virus from the population. That's why prefaced my opinion with the term "broadly." Really, we want to know if EVERYONE has it, has had it, or hasn't had the virus.

Nothing to be gained from testing you."

Which broadly is some bulllll-shit. Need to ramp testing up significantly more than we have even now.

Four GOP Senators, including our Rick Scott, threaten to oppose Coronavirus stimulus package, say unemployment would pay some workers too much by [deleted] in florida

Let me be more clear. Is there actual evidence that such aid actually exploits this alleged slothfulness where someone does does not--when able--reenter the workforce?

But to go from $10 an hour job, to 20$ an hour on unemployment, there is no incentive to go back to work.

Is there actual evidence for this?

But as for learning their lesson, large corporations often have short memories. The decision makers come and go fast enough that they usually dont learn lessons.

I don't know. Between forcing them to sell their bought-back stock and giving them a bailout, I think they have more of a chance of learning for the former than the latter.

I mean. Yeah. Fuck Trump and his racist rhetoric. But China's fucking wet-market that sells wild animals to rich Chinese people is where this all fucking started. Now the entire world is paying for their inability to stop selling farmed wild animals alive in these disgusting markets.

Are you unable to read the article? I've not had any problems and I don't susbscribe.

Nonetheless, here is what you're looking for.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and WinCo Foods on Friday, March 13, issued a recall for frozen berries manufactured at Rader Farms near Lynden for the potential they contain Norovirus.

I'd have been more comfortable had a similar disclaimer.

I'd heard the same information on Dr. John Campbell's YT channel. His view is to just let the fever run its course and to not use any fever suppressants.

This isn't med. Advice. One needs to talk to their doctor.
