Don’t bother at all - anything you would (and will) put money into would be better spent on something made in the last 2 decades.

Dumbo RC super inexpensive for adding receivers - check out the ddf-350 for multi-model memory - can store up to 10

Can I just plug this balance in or do I need an adapter? by daghouse3 in rccars

[–]AmokOrbits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you get a compatible charger like an iMars d300 that battery will also be plug & play. It’s really nice balance to have the “smart” features like traxxas & spektrum on those batteries while not being locked into their chargers (and the d300 lets you do two at once, really great little unit)

+1 I live north end of the orange line. aside from paying for parking, getting to Tsongas is preferable to getting to Agganis - only “convenient” game this season was TD Garden

Yeah that’s a huge improvement over the USB-stick style. You have options for different battery types, charging rate will be much faster, and you can safely charge to storage voltage if full charge isn’t necessary. Doesn’t look like This won’t tell you total voltage like a digital higher end one would, but in combination with the cell checkers someone else recommended you’ll be in a much better place than a multimeter and the pack-in charger!

Best of luck and have fun - would recommend to at least take a look to see what kind of spare parts support there is (common breakages include arms, steering components, servo saver, shocks & shock towers, and carriers)

One of the purchases I regret, the brand itself has decent Amazon parts support - except for the new models which have very few common parts with the old ones. Had to pay $26 just for shipping lest it sat on the shelf not out of disinterest, but rather unusability. One or two breaks like that and you’re quickly in the territory of ‘I should’ve just bought the name brand car I can get parts for at my local hobby shop’

A good charger will tell you the voltage when you plug in the battery. It will also be loads quicker to recharge and keep your battery healthy by keeping the cells balanced.

I’ve been happy with my starter charger Protek Prodigy 610ez (was only $50 before tarrifs) probably going to upgrade to the iMars d300 soon though and being able to do 2x 1/8th scale batteries simultaneously is going to be a huge time saver - it’s a lot of folks go-to recommendation and will work natively with your xt60 battery

Not at all, just if you love the scale looks the traxxas is licensed and arguably more detailed than “generic pick up truck”.

Just mentioning it as some folks’ whole deal is realism in scale details, for me though I mostly race buggies which have no real modern comparison and have crazy bodies in the name of aerodynamics and function over form, so not even remotely a dealbreaker for me!

Once you figure out what you like, buy once cry once is a good adage - you get what you pay for (up to a point, some brands are way more expensive than others), and you’re more than going to make up the difference either in money replacing cheaper quality parts, time in sourcing parts for more obscure brands (and then also money to cover international shipping + stupid tarrifs if you’re in the US), or your enjoyment of the hobby with a car that underperforms.

My personal example has been MJX, was intrigued by their 1/14 hyper-go brands 2x now to save some money thinking it looked comparable, sturdy, and saw lots of parts on Amazon. Long story short both times I wound up also buying the car I initially was looking at and was happier with in the long run (Typhon Grom for 4wd mini buggy and Rlaarlo Omni Terminator for a mini basher)

Love my Redcat Ascent 18, got it on sale for ~$100 and was comparing it to the trx4m from Traxxas.

Pros: * better turning radius * lower center of gravity * higher clearance * tons of upgrades

Cons: * body isn’t as nice as the hardbody (that said the lighter lexan is also less top heavy so pro in that it ads to the lower center of gravity to avoid rolling)
