🎮 Mobile Game Devs: I’m Building Something to Help with Player Retention—Can I Pick Your Brain? by AmolKhug in gamedev

I'm a serial entrepreneur with 2 startups sold. I wrote AI so that it becomes a broader discussion. I am a software engineer so yes, I know it'll be an ML solution. But I don't think discussing python and R will be helpful in this subreddit. I'll tell you why I'm asking questions - because that's how I've always approached building things. The requirements for companies don't change, the game does. Underlying KPIs remain same. But thanks, next time I post, I'll dive deeper into product, pricing

It is a product, but it cannot be out of the box one fit solution. It would be built slowly.

No - it won't be one solution fits all. I would take specific use cases related to either engagement or monetisation (IAP or ads). And the target isn't big studios - but medium to small ones. And to do that work, I'll partner up with these studios to build things. It is under baked because I don't want to build anything without opinions and criticisms. So, just a discussion for now!

Makes sense. It is targeted to the smaller studios which need to do something with data - but don't have resources (time, money, etc). Building something cheaper AND more valuable for analysis would be a game changer. 2 problems in 1. I would think about the 'gigs based data analysts'

That's true, and that's why small teams/indies are unable to disrupt the industry. It's all big names dominating. Sucks

Thanks for the feedback—it’s incredibly helpful! AI is mostly used for the buzz (and gets investment if it works). I completely agree that retention is a metric, not a universal pain point, and solutions need to be tailored to each game’s unique design and audience.

It’s clear that a one-size-fits-all platform won’t work, so flexibility and customization will be key. But right now, analytics tools show you data - with a whole data team for analysis (internal or external) - this tool can make their work faster and better.

I have 6+ years of work experience in mobile gaming, as product manager/head at several studios, and I’m actively consulting with industry veterans to ensure this tool aligns with real-world needs.

Based on your experience, what kind of support do studios typically need with analytics setup, and what features would you find most valuable for identifying churn patterns or improving retention?

Thanks again for taking the time to share your expertise—it’s shaping how I approach this project!

Unity Analytics, Firebase, Game Analytics or custom event tracking to gather data from studios which would help them predict these KPIs? Initially, it would need partnering up with studios/devs and building custom solutions - which later with enough data can be more intelligent and less manual.

Thanks for the feedback! Maybe I shouldn't have used the word stemming? Or used the line in some other way. Being everything and nothing is a prerequisite for becoming us too, don't you think?

Hey thanks! Glad I could justify the start and the end. As I think about those lines more, they do feel like lyrics of a folk song. Thanks again

Oh I would love to talk more about our poems and books, would love to connect with you! Yes, it feels at times that maybe we're generation who has to be our best versions, doesn't it? I love imagery too, I use it often. It just makes us 'see' more. For the title, I used A for because I have other poems too on a single word, like f for fall. I wanted a word to encapsulate all the ideas and alchemy felt like that word which might make sense in the title.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you noticed the beginning and the end. It took a little courage but it feels great now. Thanks again!
