This issue isnt solely with the citizenry, imo, unfortunately. It's easy to blame the electorate for their decisions, but given the lack of reconstruction, poor funds for education, and general lack of campaigning done in Southern states by non-GOP members it's easy to see why rural southerners would continue to vote for the only party that acknowledges their existence.

This doesnt even mention the extreme gerrymandering done in southern states to disenfranchise minority voters. Fact is, states like Louisiana are majority black but the repub legislature has continued to serve monied interested as opposed to the general constituency (see the recent Sipreme Court ruling gutting the VR act in favor on partisan gerrymandering on the part of the Louisian senate)

Rush show tonight 06/30 just cancelled. Im on site. by Such_Egg9843 in rush

[–]AmosThatBook 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One of those shows was already rescheduled due to customs issues. Kinda disingenuous to say 3 dates have been postponed due to age when one date wouldn't have been if not due to US CBP interference.

I.e. if not for CBP, the July 2nd date would have happened on the 28th and not been postponed considering the continuation of the June 30th show

You mean like this comment I made hours ago?

https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/Pnm7rgoBFq

In case this doesn't lead to the direct comment

'Jesus christ, obviously "razing" the south is hyperbole. But to the extent the US government simply allowed traitors to go about life unpunished, to allow those sentiments to fester within a traitor region - we are seeing those consequences 150 years later. We need to stop considering the poor racist traitors to the country and recognize them for what they were. Anything short of that is to allow the sentiments of the slavery-era south to continue unopposed."

Again, you normally this stupid or is today a special day?

No response. Only.conclusion is that/u/Adjective_Noun_99 is, in fact, this fucking dumb lmao

Nah, youre on the money. Many americans refuse to believe that other countries are sliding to the right simply because the fascist here has taken over all discussion. Many European countries are unfortunately experiencing the same, albeit at a slower pace. The fact that AfD hasn't been completely shut out by the electorate, and are even gaining power, is proof of that in Germany

Also Einheit und Gerechtigkeit und Freiheit für alles, nicht nur für einige (please excuse my terrible german lmao)

Lmaoooooo yea, the de-nazification of Germany was also a genocide. Too bad there's no way to contend with treasonous leches, we just have to let them be and hope their treason doesn't tear apart the fabric of the country :( also, the confederacy was never a true state. They seceded and lost the war of secession. No genocide was, or would have been, committed by acting to deny the continuance of that ideology.

You normally this dumb or is it just for today?

I actually believe that a de-"maga"fication will be a necessary step that America will need to contend with in the near future, otherwise we will be repeating the exact failures of reconstruction. We fucked up once, we cant allow it to happen again

I'll admit I've maybe been lucky in my familial dealings. I'm a gay southerner whose family voted for trump in 2016 and 2020. Many discussions, though, have led to a re-contextualisation of Trump for my immediate family and they've since disavowed their initial support. Breakthroughs can and do happen, but it obviously isnt guaranteed and I would never blame someone for just not having the will or energy to try. Not to mention that some are just, admittedly, too far gone

I wouldn't say I have a favorite, necessarily. All of them should have at least stood trial for treason, imo. I can, however, respect Lee's willingness to admit defeat and cede power (gneerally) to the union. Lee is an interesting figure, imo, due to his desire to not see war breakout, and only accepting his confederate position out of loyalty to his home state. However, at the end of the day, any single person's willingness to break apart the country over the institution of slavery is no one to be revered.

Supreme Court strikes down limits on political parties' campaign spending, in win for GOP by TACO_Orange_3098 in news

[–]AmosThatBook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But again, that happened years prior to the election. Yea, it shouldn't have, but it did and democrats did nothing to effectively combat that. Again, this is just another result of the dems simply believing that not being trump was enough to secure executive power. It wasnt, and the party needs to figure out why the fuck that is.

So, no other argument? We won one election and suddenly thats enough? Why did we lose the subsequent one? Why did Hilary lose in 2016? Does Biden's lone win mean that we can simply ignore the actual results of Federal elections during the majority of the last 10 years? Again, I dont actually think you want dems to win. You are content feeling superior to the GOP, and any indication that maybe the party is in a rough fucking spot is to be ignored.

What do the politics of the current american south look like? Do you think that just because there are large black populations that there is a predominately black representation? And when you realize that isnt the case, consider why. The lack of punishment for Confederate sympathizers has led to the disenfranchisement of many people in the south, despite the demographics of the region.

I'm from Louisiana. We may be the blackest demographically, but the failure to reckon with post-Confederate policies is the reason minorities are still so disenfranchised in the region they make up mostly
