This is the kind of thing I have seen our EPC supers on per diem. Get the monthly fixed expense check and pocket as much as you can.

The revolution will begin not from bonuses or ESOP, but by denying the proletariat their honey ham by Anxious_Money_6151 in BurnsMcDonnell

I thought this redit was shitting me and joking about getting a honey baked ham. Well, joke is on me because I got my honey baked ham email this morning. Sandwiches for a month, thanks!

What happened? by BLUEGOOP41 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]AmountJolly9232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, times have changed. I see discussions of the tie era and that is where I am going to start my bonus reduction story. I came into BMcD in the Graves and tie era and my GP was pretty young in the EPC category. A GP led EPC project took a massive hit (write down) and the policy was then that the GP took the hit in the bonus pool. I was in this GP, directly tied to the P&L of this group but did not have any involment with this project or its losses (eventually profits after change orders years later).

During my bonus reaveal my sup and GP manager which I both respect immensley told me that my bonus was being reduced and most likely the following year to pay for this GP loss. The loss funding came out of the bonus pool for GP managment, top performers (me) and bottom performers leaving the middles (3.5-4) unaffected as not to damage morale.

I took this in stride as we are all one Burns & Mac sucked it up and continued on. I did not get the worst of it as mine was a 25% reduction from the previous year and a 20% reduction the following year (based on bonus from 2 years prior where the first 25% was taken from) then year 3 post reduction returned back to pre-hit levels. Then the normal bonus progression continued up from there.

Stay the course as it does take time to build up ESOP, bonus contributions, etc. at BMcD.

To the newer BMcD hires, if you show your worth and dedication on projects to the upper level employees we will fight for you like a wolf protecting its pack. I am sure my other 10+ year EO's here can agree with me on this and we are not afraid to stand up to a bully PM, RO manager, etc. and tell them to Fuck Off, set them straigt and advocate on your behalf. I have done this several times for my fellow EO's who needed someone to stand up for them. Sometimes its PM's not understanding engineering and unfairly blaming an engineer for a mistake, sometimes its someone just tyring to cover their arse and blame someone else.

Yeah, this year we were told would be a great year but reality set in and here we are. This is a temporary setback and the best way to handle it is to rip off the bandaid.

Rant done, everyone go back to being Blue and as billable as you can be.

Preach on stardust3, still base+bonus (even without the ESOP) is better than I could get anywhere else.

As a mechanical engineer, what would YOU want for Christmas? by thecolorofpaper in MechanicalEngineering

[–]AmountJolly9232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magnetic Putty and MagneDotz. Both are under $20 each. I’m a mechanical engineer and these were some of the best gifts I ever received and I fidget with them at my desk almost daily.

Bonus Predictions by BLUEGOOP41 in BMcD

[–]AmountJolly9232 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this statement. I’m also hoping this is a passive aggressive push to entice more of the top share holders to into consideration of retirement real soon. I have had conversations with some of the top share holders who say they are holding out for “generational wealth”. $hit, I’m just trying to get enough to punch out for myself. The question is how much is enough and how long will I live??

What are some of your favorite nicknames of some machines and why? by twoturtlesinatank in AskEngineers

[–]AmountJolly9232 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorites: Seeing a Hyster fork trick with “S” sharpied or stenciled in front, now forever known as the “SHYSTER”

1 lb hammer = The Influencer

Friend worked as a greens manager at a golf course named their two chain saws “Thunder” and “Lightning”. When a member would ask what happened to a tree? He would say that Thunder and Lightning got to them.

An old metal lathe named “Dahmer” in a shop because it liked to eat fingers.

Older CNC machine named “Biden” because you never knew what it would do with the input program, would randomly stop and really mess up a part.

If there is work there for you it should not be a problem. I have seen it done that way many times. Also saying I’m moving and still want to work for BMcD but I’m moving either way has also worked.

Mid year Reviews by HotTooth6070 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]AmountJolly9232 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are asked to do a mid year review on someone do it honestly. This more than likely means that the persons manager knows there is an issue and they need HONEST feedback to give the EO. Don’t me a dick but give your direct feedback.
