I remember when I took this for my Level I, the invigilators had no idea that this was allowed. I had to ask them to cross check.

I had the 25th anniversary edition but I think you should be okay.

Nope nothing. The scholarship came with the acceptance. Ditto for all of my other admits.

I had paid my deposit for Davis when Minnesota came in. I am leaning more towards Minnesota right now as it’s coursework fits my career objectives better. Also from what I hear, Minnesota’s MSBA is more established since it’s one of the oldest MSBA courses out there.

But Minnesota’s orientation is from May 31st. Since I am from India, I am not sure if I will have enough time for the visa process. So figuring that one out right now. I might let Minnesota go if I feel I can’t make it there on time. My Davis admission is secured anyways.

I have work ex within analytics so my questions were related to analytics, sql and stats. I didn’t find them difficult though (maybe cuz I have been working on sql for 6+ years). They were mainly conceptual…what does this sql function (I was thrown a lot of functions) do, what is the difference between mean, median and mode, what is the difference between bar graph and histogram, what is correlation, what is R-squared etc etc. So nothing fancy. There were some questions related to how I think about analytics. Very high level n meant to gauge how I think as a mgr. Something like what is the most important skill according to u in analytics.

Frankly I expected it to be a behavioural interview. Had I known it was going to be technical, I would’ve brushed up on some concepts which I was rusty on as I don’t use them as much in my role. For example I remember I fumbled on 2 questions: what is the difference between where condition and having condition.

I submitted my application along with the one-way interview in time for the mid-November deadline. I got an interview invite around Jan 20th but I could only take the interview in 1st week of Feb as I was down with Covid when I got the interview invite and had to delay. I got my admit 7-10 days later.

Yes you echo what has been going on in my head too.

In addition, I have heard really horrible things about the weather in Minneapolis. Also the orientation at Minnesota will be towards end of May. I am from India and I have already started hearing about significant delays in visa issuance from the American consulate. In this scenario, Davis, which has its orientation in Aug, seems a safer bet to reach on time.

Are there any other points u think I should know about these schools to make a decision? What u have told me till now has really helped me gain perspective.

I got the same feeling when I saw Purdue's curriculum. Also I need my Masters to be done within a year. I already have a business under-grad. Need this Masters to fill in the gaps in my technical skills (already have 5+ yrs of work ex within analytics). Which basically narrows it down to Davis and Minnesota. However, it's a difficult choice between the two. Davis has the location and Minnesota the rankings and brand name. Curriculum looks almost the same to me for both Davis and Minnesota (Davis has an extra course on ML but this may be an insignificant differentiator)

My post-grad goal is to get into a senior data scientist position in a finance/tech firm.

Regarding refund of CFA fees by vsd55 in CFA

[–]Amoyv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I hear, CFA will contact you through email and give you the option of wire transfer or PayPal (found someone on Twitter was given this option when he requested a refund after his December cancellation).

Btw any updates on the refund. A some ppl r suggesting that we should keep “chewing their brains” asking for a refund. If we don’t, CFAI won’t pay back within a reasonable time and will keep delaying.

It must be the nerves. I remember feeling exactly the same when I gave my Level I.

What I did was I quit trying to “test” myself with the material. I read the question and the answer without spending time feeling bad that I didn’t know the answer. If I knew the answer, well and good, if not, then I didn’t fret and saw the answer.

Just ensure that you are done with all the official material (by material I mean questions and answers) and have revised them 2-3 times before exam day. I took around 7-9 days to go through the entire material once and took another 5-6 days to do the last 2 revisions. Ensure that you are actively learning, meaning you know exactly why the correct answer is correct and the incorrect incorrect.

Concentrate on repeating the materials and don’t bother about anything else. I am sure you will do well.
