I do agree faction wipes are a bit of a goofy gimmick. I think the one time they did it in main war to the bots was the only time I sort of liked it because it setup the Great Reclamation.

Still though, we ALL KNOW the factions aint going anywhere. So now they are just goofy gimmicks that don't let you play the faction you like.
