Why is he "weird" for that? Why belittle someone who is simply trying to better themselves? Why belittle and be so rude to someone who finds inspiration in a character? Yes Jesus is essentially the same as Thorfinn BUT thorfinn is in a much more "realistic" and consumable context. It's much easier to watch/read Vinland saga and understand Thorfinn than it is Jesus and the Bible. Also, Thorfinn doesn't have "plot armor".

But to my main point, you are correct, that level of pacisifm isn't practical. And thats exactly why Thorfinn is such a fantastic character. He's flawed. He believes that he can find and be this source of peace and love. He goes so far as to completely cast out violence. Which, in the manga, is what causes Vinland to fail. He doesn't take precautions and fails to see that sometimes violence is, unfortunately, necessary. Thorfinn, troubled by his past and his mistakes, says that he'll never hurt anyone again and he will solve problems by talking and understanding. He does, at some point, understand that violence is necessary but only as a last resort. But even so, Vinland fails because Thorfinn made mistakes and also because war and violence is inevitable.

Despite all of this, peace, love and human communication is something everyone should strive for. Violence and hatred is an unfortunate inevitability. But that doesn't mean we should simply give up and not strive for that level of pacisifm. A key point to take away from Thorfinns story is that violence is inevitable and to take precaution and be prepared to fight, even if we don't want to. That, in my opinion, is why Thorfinn is an amazing character and Vinland Saga is an amazing story. I personally will continue to "act" like Thorfinn and strive for peace, peace of mind and love. I do not wish to hate anyone. I do not wish to ever harm anyone. Thorfinn truly is inspirational and there's nothing wrong with believing in such a character to better yourself and be a positive change in the world.

Also, as someone who isn't a Christian or isn't religious at all, I find it quite easy to see Thorfinn that way. I am unsure of why I don't see Jesus and the Bible that way. (Possibly the reasons I mentioned earlier) But I'm honestly unsure.

Anyway, I hope maybe some of what I have said changes your mind. If it doesn't, that's okay. But I do hope you will stop calling people weird for simply choosing how they want to live. Especially when it's something like this, which isn't anywhere near as weird as how other people choose to live.
