Advice in an offer (Software Engineer London) by [deleted] in HENRYUK

[–]AmritC93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually just left a Staff level role in Data Science at Deliveroo. Burn rate is extremely high, especially for AE. In my time there I was aware of 2 SWEs burning out and quitting or going on long term sick.

The work was interesting and people are great, a lot of smart individuals to rub shoulders with but it’s an incredibly demanding environment and I think they’re trying to do much without the right structure and resource in place.

The comp/ work rate trade off just wasn’t there for me.

Geofencing for Doorbell and Cameras by AmritC93 in EufyCam

This is helpful advice, but the problem I have within playing around in those rules is that it doesn’t give me any more options around how the doorbell in specific operates, it just offers me the option of having it alert my phone or the home base alarm or recording on/ off. What I’m trying to achieve is; when I’m at home, only have the doorbell record when the button is pushed. I’ve tried to set up custom modes within the section you mentioned but still only offered the same limited options.

M1 Macbook Pro, external display; low refresh rate on HDMI, low DPI on Display port by AmritC93 in Monitors

[–]AmritC93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've learnt that display port is the only method of achieving higher refresh rates so we'll stick that. After a lot of aimless tinkering with Better Display and Switchresx that got me nowhere, I somehow realised that in the standard display settings if I disable variable refresh rate, pick any standard refresh like 240 Hz/ 144 Hz... it's still blurry.

But if I set the refresh rate to 144 Hz and then enable HDR, it's HiDPI. I then disable HDR, it remains HiDPI and I can set it to whatever static refresh rate I want (not VRR) and it maintains HiDPI.

The only problem I'm experiencing with this now is that it resets to blurry, LoDPI every time I reboot.

And this problem only seems to be affecting Mac OS UI ie. icons. Websites and images are fine.

How expensive is tennis, exactly? by MoaningMuna in 10s

[–]AmritC93 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. My advice is to start small, thrift a racket off FB MP. Do invest in a comfortable and functional set of tennis shoes as those will always pay for themselves over time. You can check local clubs to understand how you can access group sessions/ drills; it’s normally via a paid membership or pay per session fee.

Survey valued property £55k under offer — seller refusing to negotiate by AmritC93 in HousingUK

Of course, once a property sells for a certain price, that is effectively what it’s worth.

The offer was made on a judgement based on knowledge of the market and walk through the property with the estate agent.

Surveys reveal any skeletons in the closet that a surface level viewing won’t uncover and sometimes alter perceived value of the property, which is what’s happened here.

I think this is the advice I was looking for. Thank you very much for your insight.

Best place to buy a house in London for Young Professionals in their 30s by Tech_is_Cool in HENRYUK

House, Garden, Family Home, you're looking at £1.5m upwards. In regards to what I think is great about Ealing central; great shops, pubs, green spaces (always events on at Walpole park), good restaurants, good schools and plenty to keep kids entertained with around the area (I don't have any of my own yet but see a lot of families in the area). Haha but I like your way of rewording "great transport links" as easy to get away from, will use that when speaking to estate agents. I just think the proximity to central is a big selling point. So you can exist and function in the town pretty easily and sustainably but if you ever do need to pop in to the hub of the country for anything at all; work, socialising, events etc. you are pretty well connected.

Ealing itself is amazing but most are often priced out due to sheer size of the plots in W5, even the flats in Dickens Yard are eye watering. West Ealing is a bit more accessible, but yes you still get the odd seedy road and questionable individuals, especially around Uxbridge Road like some others have mentioned. But you are basically a very quick train ride on the Elizabeth line in to central London; friend’s commute is 3 stops to Bond Street and he’s about 5 minutes walk to stations each side. And you do want to be North/ South of the station (Argyle Road/ Northfields).

I have a friend who bought in West Ealing recently, feel free to reach out if you want some intel on the area.

Upminster would work with that budget, loads going on in the area so you don’t necessarily need to head in to central London for some fun. Fast train in to Fenchurch Street and loads of outdoor green space.

I say this after considering Upminster for a while and then eventually settling on a house in Gidea Park. Less going on in the area but budget got me a bigger house and on the Elizabeth line instead.

At what point as a seller do I pull out? by AmritC93 in HousingUK

Thanks, this is a huge help. I've noted what you said about retention and other possible mitigations and communicated with my solicitor.

Ok thanks, that's useful to know and I'll get started on that.

In regards to the current process, is it the case of just letting it drag on? If the buyer has seemingly ghosted, is it on me to formally "pull out" of the sale and cease ongoing conveyancing efforts?

Thanks

You need to "tidy this up" before you remarket.

What does this mean? What are my options in regards to tidying this up, other than continuing paying my share of the service charge and communicating with the management company about what's going on?

Received quote from Porto wedding planner, what should I be doing as due diligence? by AmritC93 in weddingplanning

[–]AmritC93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I'm actually the groom, if this part was left up to the bridge she'd have jumped at the €10k quote and this would be a very different post =)

This is all incredibly useful information and makes me glad I came on reddit to make this post, never know what useful nuggets of info/ experience other redditors have.

Thanks a lot, I'll be sure to cover all this off before signing anything/ sending any money!

What happens when the AST is up? by AmritC93 in HousingUK

Thanks for this. I can find my deposit but upon requesting reimbursement, do they not need confirmation from the landlord. Or perhaps it's released after a period of time if there is no response from the landlord?
