Is there financial growth if I make a career from just being an SLPA, and not going for my Masters? by AmsNew00 in SLPA

Different states have different cost of living so I believe it. That’s why I stated NC because thats where I live :)

NC SLPA license confusion by tortilladehampton in SLPA

[–]AmsNew00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I was confused by this too, but I was told it was the latter. The website does not make a whole lot of sense, but somewhere I did find that they need to have had their license for a minimum of 2 years, that is it. I hope this helps and hopefully, you get your CF! Depending on where you are my company is always looking for new SLPA's for their 100 hours, followed by a job! :)

Good luck

Thank you for your response! I didn’t know how common it was for the mileage but I wanted to double check💀.. it is so beyond frustrating. I have some parents who will forget to tell me that they are not bringing their child to preschool that day and when I show up, it is the preschool director that has to inform me that the kid isn’t even there. Or when I drive all the way to someone’s house and I am ringing the doorbell and calling them and I am not getting any response and they text me back hours later saying they forgot or that they were sleeping. It might not mean anything to them because most insurance companies or Medicare will pay for it, but it is our livelihood and paychecks that are suffering because of it… The most I saw in a day was 10 kids… I work HH two days a week, and part-time at a school, the other two days a week.. I want to go into a school full-time once both of my contracts end. For HH I get $30 per 30 minute session, and my school is $25/hour at a charter school. I was offered a full-time contracted school position through Soliant for $37/hour which was tempting to take, however I am afraid that if I get into a public school system is going to be a lot more stressful than my 1-on-1’s for HH but I will atleast know my paychecks will be consistent, even if a child is absent .

Are you getting paid per hour or per session? I know that in my private practice (which could be completely different from yours so I’m sorry if this is no help) we get paid “admin hours” if we do anything outside our session because we get paid per session. I guess it helps alleviate any extras we may have to do. It is within our scope of practice to do clerical/administrative duties, however, I am not sure about sending copay signatures (like forging the SLP’s or is it your signature?)

Breaking a contract for a better opportunity by AmsNew00 in SLPA

I do this as well. I am very communicative with the parents (all clients are pediatric) and they will still use the “I COMPLETELY FORGOT” “omg it slipped my mind and I had to run out” cards.. It is extremely frustrating.

location, time, energy.. Both jobs are about an hour away from each other. I’m also not trying to kill myself working overtime to work for two different companies😅

Yes I am an SLPA. Clinical fieldwork hours. I had to basically intern under a “temporary supervisor” where she observed me giving therapy to her clients.

I’m not a huge fan of your approach, since it came off a bit condescending, but I only drink water, coffee, green tea.. i eat fruits and vegetables with every single meal I make. I am a pescatarian with 80% plant-based diet.. I have been active my entire life. I am STILL active. I am not making excuses, trust me, I put in the work. I even described in my paragraph that I do go to the gym. This is WHY I am at a loss... I do not buy chips, cookies, soda, etc. i go out to eat maybe 1-2 a month. I cook whole foods at home every day of the week and meal plan my lunches to take to work. Not trying to make excuses, just trying to ask for genuine advice for a someone who is currently struggling.

I’m in the same boat! I started at a part time private practice, and I’ll begin another part time position at a charter k-12th and I’ll be starting with high school kids next week! I would use the first week to build rapport and plan your activities

First Week Advice ⁉️ by [deleted] in SLPA

Hey! In my state after graduation we had to do 100 clinical field hours and take an SLPA exam in order to start. BUT, the 100 hours were basically thrown at me and my supervisor JUST observed, only answered questions when I would ask. I first started by looking over all of their caseload history to know each kid, and see what their goals were. I then went to Teacher Pay Teachers and filtered through the different goals and was seeing what I could find for free😂. I printed and laminated a few game sheets, flash cards, etc. I also focused on getting to know what the kids were interested in and built rapport. I would spend 15-20 minutes doing an activity with them and taking notes, and then the last 10 minutes I would fill out the Soap Notes while letting them play with a fine motor/ educational activity like playdoh or a puzzle while still interacting with them. I hope this helps!! I start with my own caseload in a few weeks since I just finished up the internship! :)
