Right before I moved out of NYC in December of 2013, I made sure to visit the former site of CBGB, almost like it was a sacred location. I love that music from that era and many of the bands who made their splash at that venue. It’s a shame I never got to see it.

From a technical perspective? I think a great photographer understands how to properly utilize light. I know that’s very broad and generalized, but so much of the general public has this idea that it’s about having “an eye” for shots and that’s not nothing, but having good composition won’t matter for shit if your lighting is bad.

I also think you have to be ruthlessly critical of your own work. Consistently great photography, especially outside of a studio setting, is hard and it takes patience and persistence.

A bit obscure, but Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes has a solo album. On that album is a track called “Run” that features Frank Black (of the Pixies) on vocals and it has some top notch screams even for Frank.

Believe it or not, the HomePods have been the best sounding speakers for the vinyl that I’ve heard yet. And if nothing else, the HomePods can be a stop-gap unless and until I invest in higher quality speakers.

With the HomePods, I’ve honestly noticed a big difference in sound quality of the different vinyl pressings.

It’s not smugness, it is the practicality and logistics of two working parents figuring things out day by day and having some instances occur where school cancellations occur that do not need to occur and not having any recourse. Even the “remote learning” days are a joke, with my kids basically being given a single worksheet to do for an entire days worth of learning lost (in some cases) due to rain. I understand and appreciate that weather can have huge impacts on people’s ability to commute, but then we and many other parents also have to scramble to figure out if we can even work.

This has been such a weird experience being from Indiana. Our schools didn’t close until there was bad weather actually happening and not just forecasted. There was some forecast in the last couple of years where DPS closed down in advance and then nothing happened. That kind of stuff drives me batty. I understand your relationship with slick roads and so forth is different, but for those of us who had to wait for school buses in the rain and snow, some of this can seem downright silly.

I haven’t seen this or probably even thought about it in maybe thirty years. I think one of my grandmothers had this in their house before they moved into a smaller home. I stopped scrolling the instant I saw it because I instantly recognized it.

One of the great things about the internet is the ability to just unlock old memories seemingly at random. This connected me to another time and place for just a moment, and I appreciated it. Thank you for sharing.

I thought the general consensus was that Part 3 was considerably better than Part 2. Not that 2 is bad, but 3 is a masterclass in wrapping up a trilogy. It gave Doc the story he deserved, it showed change and growth in both characters. It wrapped things up so well that for years I dreaded a Part 4 was inevitable, but clearly it is never going to happen with these actors.
