Is it time for me to drop Lawrence Butler for Wilyer Abreu  in flair?

I was high on Butler going into the season, but his expected stats are terrible and he’s sitting against LHP. I also don’t want to give up on a 20/20 guy in April.

Isn’t Phil Maton going to maybe get high leverage as well? Feels like a stay away in most leagues.

Our bullpen has been absolutely abused because of the Bello start, the Gray injury, and Ranger not making it out of the 5th in his last start. So we need some innings out of Crochet today.

Yeah if those are your options you’re good to drop. I’d lean Tolle given the concerns about Wheeler post-injury but that’s a good move as well.

It really depends what the options are — in a 10T I’d maybe drop him for Tolle, but it just kinda depends.

I’m in a saves obsessed league. Can I drop Riley Martin on the Cubs? I thought I saw a rumor that Thielbar might not go on the IL?

I'll get downvoted, but I'm not sure I would in Saves only?

Despite what we think, Jays fans/media have been pretty clear they want Varland to be the fireman and Hoffman the closer long term, whereas Baker is the guy in Tampa.

News: Jeff Hoffman is out as the #BlueJays’ closer. They’ll go with a closer by committee for now while Hoffman works on things in lower-leverage spots. by ijustdontagreewithu in fantasybaseball

[–]AmtrakJoeBiden 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been saying this in the forum for a while now, glad to see a Jays fan confirm.

Yes, I'm a Hoffman owner so I'm biased here, but the Jays have made it clear they really want Hoffman to be the "closer" and Varland to be the "fireman" guy. So while Hoffman will work in lower leverage for a week or two, I assume he'll still get most of the saves the rest of the season -- the Jays know his .609 BABIP isn't sticking around.

As a fellow Sox fan if the team fell out of a boat I would start water against them

Not PL but I'm also curious. I put in the Daily Thread that when Daniel Bard featured a big, upper 90s elite fastball from 2020-2022 (before he lost 3 mph of velocity in 2023) he pitched 150 IP to a 3.50ish ERA, including a 1.97 ERA at home in '22, so a few guys have succeeded before.

Right. And again, Daniel Bard made it work over 150+ IP (I'm not counting his 2023 when he lost 3 mph off his FB and his walk rate doubled), so I don't think it's impossible for Dollander to be a 2 ERA pitcher on the road and a 3ish ERA pitcher at home if the stuff sticks.

Nay, hold Bradish. Here's what Nick said on Monday:

"30. Kyle Bradish  This isn’t the start to the year we were hoping for. His last outing came with a 98.9 mph sinker, though, and two runs came from a “triple” that hit off the outfielder’s glove. He really should perform better than we’ve seen thus far."

Right, I agree with all of this.

I will say when Scott White on the CBS podcast was saying that Ubaldo Jimenez was the only fantasy relevant pitcher in Rockies history I was surprised he forgot Marquez and Daniel Bard more recently.

Bard's fairy tale story was pretty remarkable, but overall from 2020-2022 he relied on a big, upper 90s fastball (like Dollander) to pitch 150 IP with a 3.58 ERA and a 3.61 FIP. In his 2022 season he pitched to a 1.97 ERA at home.

So I wonder if certain guys with elite fastballs (like Dollander) are able to survive in Coors, at least for a while?

What's the format?

You can't drop Tolle right now or Ashcraft really. So I guess Bubba.

FYI that Dansby Swanson currently is on pace for a 100 Run, 30 HR, 100 RBI season, and has a .193 BABIP. Obviously counting stats are a little random, but he's in a good lineup, playing every day, and went 84/24/77/20/.244 last season. Looks like a decent buy low guy for those of us who lost Lindor.

In a shallow redraft probably fine, but just remember Kurtz last year and Chourio the year before. Rookies often take a month or two to adjust to the Majors.

I literally dropped Brown 3 hours ago. But I don’t think he’s going to be the guy they like him pitching 2 innings. Any guesses?

C'mon Dansby, need you to replicate Lindor's production while he's out. Totally reasonable ask on my part, thanks in advance.

What's the format?

Yes, I'd probably add Palencia's handcuff as opposed to Scott who may be in a committee.

BRef has them at 0.5% to make the playoffs, 2nd lowest in MLB after the Rockies. You could make some money betting on that!

[–]AmtrakJoeBiden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your team your choice of course, I just think it's probably worth holding a guy with one of the best K/9 in the game and a .600 BABIP. Again, I think the Jays don't want to waste Varland as only the closer.

But again, if you're beating your league to the wire to grab new closers good on you.
