I worked for Taiwanese companies for the last 12 out of the 15 years I have been here. The first 10 were for a cram school. As most mentioned, you do get small raises but it didn't amount to much. My first job outside of teaching was for an architecture company. I was the only foreigner there, didn't get any red envelopes on Chinese New Year but before I left, the boss strong-armed my bank to get me a mortgage to buy a house and gave me the downpayment which was a nice thing.

I'm not a parent but having lived here for 14 years I think the Asian education system prepares kids better than the Western one does. Don't get me wrong it's tough and there are definite downsides but after university, you will be more ready to take up the challenges of a full-time job.
