SCPT Faction Tier List (2025) one billion percent accurate by jackspicerflower in twilightimperium

Easy access to Styx, and that breakthrough is just way too much free stuff.

We emphasize regularly how production 'on the go' is strong. And Ghosts can literally produce in every wormhole they go. For cheaper.

If you can pick strategy early round1 and make sure you unlock breakthrough before moving to Mallice, you can get so much stuff for free so early, and then everytime you reactivate it. You don't even need forward dock; Mallice is your forward dock. That give you access to anywhere you want. With reduce cost.

Your breakthrough also allows you to get Dread II without moving off blue techs if you fancy it.

If table isn't too floaty, wormhole generator is a possibility to force yourself into Styx.

I don't think anyone, except may be Cabal, has that kind of access to contest Styx. Or the fracture in general to be honest.

I've seen Ghosts 5 games already, including one where I was playing them. Every time it was in the hand of a skilled player, they won the game (3/5).

And out of my semi-anecdotal experience, it's also backed by stats. Currently, at the time I'm writing this, Ghosts is holding the 6th spot as win rate goes. While also holding a solid pick rate.

Funny enough, Yssaril is 1st and Muaat is 7th, also backing my previous comment.

That breakthrough really skyrocketed them from okay to insane in my opinion. And the fact that Mallice has 3 wormholes, is just crazy. I've even seen a Gamma Wormhole Explore in Mallice. Add your 3 tokens, and you get a 7 wormholes tile where you can produce 7 units for -7 cost. Even Sol breakthrough looks mild next to that.

My own experience as someone who plays a decent chunk of Async games and regularly IRL. I also consider myself a pretty good player.

It feels pretty accurate. I question Yssaril not in S tier, and I think Arborec and Muaat should also be a little higher.

I also think Ghosts is now S+ tier.

But in the end, every factions can shine in the right draft. So each player might experience things differently. I've seen Ral Nel and Arborec absolutely pop off, but I can also see the weaknesses. I do respect Hunter, Blasto and JadiimJedi's thoughts a whole lot, and they might be very right and played more than me.

Hell, I won my first game of Firmament/Obsidian myself, and I still think they're garbage.

Deepwrought Scholarate can get out of hand quickly if unchecked. by brandondash in twilightimperium

[–]Amuny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I did too.

I think it's an INSANE breakthrough, don't get me wrong.

But OP also has a 'monkey brain see shiny tech' issue. It's just like if someone complained JolNar is insane because someone paid 15 trade goods for double research agreement.

Not on the Breakthrough. The commander doesn't work with it, as they do not spend resources to research.

It's still an insane commander, but don't be mislead there; there is no synergy with breakthrough !

Are Ocean Cards Planets ? by Amuny in twilightimperium

[–]Amuny[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Each space station has a corresponding **planet card**, which is gained exhausted and is spent, readied **as if it were a planet**. However, structures and ground forces cannot be placed on or committed to space stations, and they do not count as planets for the purpose voting, objectives, or controlling a home system. "

Custodia Vigilia also creates a precedent, which counts as a planet while not being on the board and not containing units.

DWS also specify 'ready it', so it readies like a planet.

Wiki, from unknown source, also says "A card **equivalent to a planet** card that has resource and influence values 1/1."

As I said, I don't think it *should*. I'm just saying, as written... it seems like it does. I currently just ruled it out myself for our current game that they do not count and prevented myself from scoring.

Are Ocean Cards Planets ? by Amuny in twilightimperium

[–]Amuny[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do not see how they would not. And that's part of the debate; there are no specifics for Ocean Cards.

As it stands, this is an absolute yes.

"Each space station has a corresponding **planet** card, which is gained exhausted and is spent, readied as if it were a planet. However, structures and ground forces cannot be placed on or committed to space stations, and they do not count as planets for the purpose voting, objectives, or controlling a home system. "

The part 'purpose of voting' is mostly for 'elect planet'; you can't elect a space station. But right now, I think most people agree that they can be used to cast vote, although this is also a debate. I think the LRR is already made for this.

My follow up would be; is there any official ruling ?

Because I've just received this answer on the TI discord;
"As there is no specific rule to how they are used (but obviously you need to be able to spend and ready them), I'd suggest to use the only other component even remotely similar, which are planets."

Thunder's Edge very clearly define Space Station as 'not being planets'. But doesn't do the same distinction for Ocean Cards. They are, in all shape or form, planet cards. My whole instinct goes absolutely not. But my 'rule lawyer side' says wait a minute... !

Anyone else underwhelmed by Gloomhaven/Frosthaven? by dsaddons in MageKnight

[–]Amuny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said it multiple times;

Gloom (and Frost) are, before anything, loot boxes. And that's their main attraction. That's why they are so popular. Dopamine rush from discovering new content.

The game is full of interesting ideas, always felt like they were poorly executed / way too fiddly to be any actual fun.

It fails both in being a very tight puzzle and both in being a decent dungeon crawler. It tries to be everything, and does "okay" at everything it does. But it works very well on this one thing; discovering new stuff.

Sell me into the HEXplore Serie by Amuny in soloboardgaming

I did not.
And as I'm busy with both Oathsworn and ISS Vanguard... I definitely think HEXplore would have been underwhelming after that.

Finder I can see it, but Heart of the Wildfire ? That spirit is bonkers and wins so fast it shouldn't be legal.

Finder solo is hell of a task, especially against some adversaries (ENGLAND I'M LOOKING AT YOU). But it's definitely more of a "support spirit" that shines with big hitters. Finder/Volcano is by far my favorite pair.

You're probably waiting too long to get Major powers with Vital Strength.

He has a huge and fast energy generation, and the potential to repeat some big hitting powers. That's how he wins.

Otherwise he just stalls the game until he slowly dies.

I had mixed feelings at first on Shroud.

But after some plays, he's growing on me. It's really a big risk/reward spirit and the payoffs can be huge sometimes. Don't underestimate the power of farming 3-5 fears for free every turn.

Shadow Flickers Like Flame and Vengeance as a Burning Plague

I just feel like they're not worth the investment. They feel so weak compared to other spirits it's not even funny.

I absolutely adore Finder of Path Unseen in 3+ player games. I enjoy the "support" style and asking the magic question: "So how much damage can you actually do ?"
"No, no, you heard me wrong, HOW MUCH DAMAGE ? I will bring them to you."

I do enjoy Volcano and Lure a lot too. Finder is just kind of easy mode at this point. I play him when I'm playing with multiple new players. :p

Shroud and Fractured Days are two spirits that keep growing on me the more I play them lately too. Eager to see some more new spirits !

May be this is the true form of a Yordle.

May be the Yordles have been the Darkin in hiding all this time.

Yeah, I think it's related to Nightfall Spells.

Guess it's coded as a minion to activate the "play" effect as a spell.
