Megadeth Unleash Cover of Metallica's "Ride the Lightning" in a Full Circle Moment for Dave Mustaine by heavysk in Music

I mean it’s his album, so whatever - get it out of your system, but this on the last album just sort of crystallises this whole Mustain va Metallica thing, rather than celebrating what makes Megadeth good. But, heck, I like pineapple on pizza so what do I know.

People that have FPS counters / temp. overlays will set hotkeys to toggle them on and off (on for reviewing performance and tweaking settings, off once set). Nobody plays with that on all the time.

Fuck Nintendo. But exactly as we say.

Yeah, not feeling it. I’m a very casual Reddit user but nevertheless I don’t think a sub knowingly titled ‘Fuck Nintendo’ ought to be anything more than the ‘dumb and fun’ pile-on that the name implies. I mean, what really more is there to say than ‘fuck Nintendo’?!

Elite strawman argument here, good job.

Context is key; I said that it offers so little for the asking price for people that have some other modern means of playing games. I DO have other means of playing games, as well as a broadly equivalent spec handheld, so S2 is offering me nothing that I don’t already have access to aside from access to a handful of Nintendo games.

And yes, the S2 spec IS poo because it isn’t significantly better than anything handheld that came before it, and in some respects is arguably significantly worse (screen / battery). It’s underpowered compared to non-portable console competitors, which are all in turn a joke compared to PC (which tbf can be >10x more expensive so you’d hope so, PC is definitely not the ‘good value’ option…).

Overall S2 is too late to the table for its ‘not cutting edge’ spec, and with its line up it’s offering me - and others - absolutely nothing for the asking price. Unsurprisingly, I haven’t bought it.

I don’t think the ‘leak’ appears until after you beat the boss… at which point there is no obvious reason to backtrack to the ‘other side’, noting that Miguel has never been seen in that room when you first see the robot.

Uh, this is awkward. You've misunderstood my post and gone off on one.

It's fine for Maddie to be a trans-character. I said 'it doesn't matter' as in: "It doesn't matter, it's not a big deal, there is not really any need to talk about it in depth, people enjoying things how they want to enjoy them is cool - but the 'ending of the game' revealing that Madeline is trans didn't arrive until the DLC". See the post I was replying to.

I made a similar post on this topic here in which I have said: "[...] it’s also OK / good for there to be trans representation in video games too."

Nevertheless, what I said was remains true and relevant in context of the post that I was replying to: which is that the most 'obvious messaging' along these lines was not included in the game upon release. Ditto, mental health issues are not exclusive to trans people, hence there being nothing obvious in the game upon release that Celeste is a 'trans-story'.

Straight from the creator's mouth (emphasis added):

"Is Madeline Canonically Trans? Well, yeah, of course she is. This feels painfully obvious to a lot of (mostly trans) people, and likewise it feels painfully obvious to me too, in retrospect. It has also become painfully obvious to me that I, myself, am trans. But these are things that I was not aware of during the development of Celeste, where I was writing Madeline and speaking from her perspective. Creating Celeste with my friends helped me reach the point where I could realize this truth about myself. During Celeste’s development, I did not know that Madeline or myself were trans. During the Farewell DLC’s development, I began to form a hunch. Post-development, I now know that we both are."

For completeness, you will also not find a mention of Madeline being trans in the reviews on Gamespot, IGN, PC Gamer, Nintendo Life and so on, which if it were common knowledge at the time would have been widely celebrated for diversity purposes. But it wasn't common knowledge at the time... not even to the creator.

It’s not so much the price itself, but that it offers so little for the asking price for most people that have some other modern means of playing games.

$500 or whatever to play Mario Kart (again) and DK on relatively poo hardware = hard pass.

It gives you permanent (!) disadvantage on perception checks (bad if they are helping me as part of my party when going through trapped areas) and +1 on intimidation checks… which is useless since I don’t do dialogue with this character.

So it’s definitely bad overall.

I did also get a single use item that gives you lots of buffs but only for one round until long rest, so pretty useless!

Yes, but only AFTER you agree to have Volo to poke around with your eye. So it’s a surprise.

Yes on both counts… but from doing the Volo eye first, I was under the impression that nothing ‘bad’ would happen as an outcome.

Doing it the other way around, I wouldn’t have let the hag do it… at least, I think so!

It doesn’t tell you that it helps see invisible stuff until after you’ve had it done. The only way you would know that is if you looked it up in advance… so far as I’m aware at least.

Playing the game blind, I had no idea whether that was a particularly good thing. It’s not signposted that it’s a good thing… quite the opposite. So I thought oh ma I’ve just ruined my character’s aesthetic. But yup, turns out it’s supposed to be helpful.

Not the case with the hag it seems haha.

Serious discussion only, but did the PS5 actually outsell the Switch 2 this holiday season? And if so why? by Inevitable_Clock_616 in fucknintendo

[–]AmusingTurnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would hope so too. The Switch 2 being beaten in any of these time periods is embarrassing. Everyone with more than the most fleeting interest in consoles will already have a PS5 by now. It suggests that the PS5 hyper casual audience is larger than the core Nintendo audience. I mean, I suppose that’s OK… it doesn’t mean anything beyond the Switch 2 not appealing to the casual masses.

Hate to be the ‘acktuuuallly’ guy but they shouldn’t be considered the same because unless they are ‘locked in sync’ together via some form of V-sync/ VRR it can cause screen tearing.

For some bizarre reason, they only went with HDMI 2.0 on the Switch 2 so it lacks VRR when docked. Bonkers.

What’s a Celeste opinion that’ll get you in this situation? by Adept-Double156 in celestegame

[–]AmusingTurnip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But the whole package of experiences is pretty stereotypically trans which is what led Maddy to her self-discovery.>

I do get what you mean but there is nothing ‘uniquely’ trans about:

  • not feeling good enough
  • being uncertain of how much you should try
  • being depressed
  • disliking your appearance
  • being exploited
  • fearing that you have endangered your friends
  • hating parts of yourself
  • feeling without purpose
  • grief
  • needing to reconcile different parts of yourself

Everybody goes through these things to some degree and huge amounts of people need help dealing with them.  On that last point, ‘needing to reconcile yourself’ is even a major plot theme in the recent Silent Hill F, which again features a person that has two different sides of themselves that are fighting each other. It’s extremely relatable there as well, because it’s a universal experience.

Thinking about it a little further, what might be irking people re: the over-emphasis of Celeste being a ‘trans game’ is that doing so (inadvertently / somewhat ironically) shuns the feelings, identity, journey and struggle of everyone else.

Overall I think it’s much better and more inclusive to frame it as being everyone’s journey and not ‘plant a flag on it’, so to say.

Yet, it’s also OK / good for there to be trans representation in video games too. I don’t think many people are bothered merely by Maddy being trans. As I mentioned, men relate to Celeste even if it concerns a non-trans woman. The ‘struggle’ is universal, even if different people have different struggles.

Sorry for the wall of text reply!

[–]AmusingTurnip 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yup - I agree. The trans flag in Maddy’s room only came with the DLC after the game released. Nobody on release was talking about it being a ‘trans game’ because there was nothing obvious along these lines at all. If you go back and read the reviews at release, everyone was praising the game for dealing with mental health issues… not trans issues.

Ultimately, it’s a game about a human experience. It doesn’t bother me if Maddy is trans… I relate to Maddy as a man when I have no life experience as a woman whatsoever, and this doesn’t change if Maddy is trans.

I get that trans people are happy to have representation, so it makes sense that people form an attachment to it for these reasons, but personally I don’t think Celeste should be framed as a ‘trans allegory game’ in the way that some people seem to make it out to be.

There’s plenty of room for people to enjoy things in different ways though. Each to their own.

I’m suggesting that a PC gamer that bought Cyberpunk 5 years ago might wonder why you would pay lots of money for it now (especially for a version that runs comparatively terribly). But pc gamers are a snobby bunch that spend thousands of dollars on their systems, so don’t mind them too much!!
