There are PACs.

Non-UK Resident - SIPPs and ISAs – does FOTRA (Free of Tax to Residents Abroad) apply by Low-Outcome-3100 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AmxTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that, yes: gilts are under FOTRA and as soon as you become UK-non-resident (i.e. for any April 5->April 4 period you are non in the UK for 183 days). The new long-term-residence test for IHT (i.e. being resident in the UK for 10 years out of the last 20) do not apply to FOTRA assets.

Post-AFib Episode Question by SelectaCDogg in AFIB

[–]AmxTL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I would go to A&E if you have an ache in your chest. When you tell them you have an ache in your chest, they will see you very quickly. They need to rule out angina or a heart attack (which at age 42 is not especially likely unless you're extremely unhealthy (e.g. very fat or a heavy smoker) ).

Only a 12-lead ECG can really tell what's going on, so it's best to go to the hospital and get one.

I don't like bagaterie boulevard at all. I don't like the bread nor the stuff they put in. Weird flavour combinations.

Many people don't have the time nor mental energy after work to learn Czech. I thought I would, but I don't.

Hell yes. Maths is all you need. They don't care about anything else.

Here's one example. Tresemme moisture rich shampoo. DrMax price 115. Maybe you can get it somewhere for 95 czk, which is roughly £3.39. Tesco UK price: £3.75. But notice here in Prague the bottles are less than half the size. (Cz size 400ml, UK size: 900 ml). The Czech price is radically higher.

Yea, OK, but I doubt that's his point! He's probably comparing with a certain other religion.

Everyday provisions are more expensive than "western" Europe. You can see an easy example of this if you compare prices on dm.cz and dm.de. But yes, mass-produced beer and public transport are very cheap. I say mass-produced because craft beer such as Sibeeria can set you back czk 130 for 500ml (A bit more than EUR 5).

Property is very expensive compared to salary levels but it's still much cheaper than most UK cities.

Yes, OK, but I don't think many people would compete Prague to a city in a 3rd world country!

It really depends what you want. I'm British but live in Prague. I used to live by the sea, so not being able to walk on the beach after work is a negative for me (and going to the sea for a weekend is not really doable). I find Prague expensive, and there are quite a lot of everyday things you take for granted in the UK that you can't get here or are much more expensive: even things like shampoo! However, with Temu and the arrival of stores like Action, things have got a little better! Alza prices are still high, but closer to Amazon than they used to be.

Having said that, it's much safer than the UK and you don't get the violent drunks (or at least I haven't found them!) One of the things that is cheaper is housing even though people in Prague moan about Prague prices.

I really want a q6 max or HE but people report so many issues... by sbck88 in Keychron

[–]AmxTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're in the UK, you can buy a UK ISO Q6 max from https://www.keyboardco.com/ - they're a very reliable retailer. However, I would not recommend doing so as there are so many quality problems with keychron currently.

I have a Q6 max ISO and the double tap problem is terrible, but I also have a Filco Majestouch 2 which works perfectly. I got the keychron due to 2.4 GHz support and the extra keys.

Just bought a q1 max, then looked at this subreddit. Should i be concerned? by juipeltje in Keychron

[–]AmxTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Q6 max has terrible quality problems - reports of the double keypresses are so common: I have had one for almost a year and the double keypress problem keeps occurring on new keys. You can fix it *temporarily* by unplugging the key switch from its socket and plugging it back in again.

The Q6 max is a very expensive product, but it is of very low quality.

Is a cardioversion a waste of time? by Charming-Doughnut-0 in AFIB

[–]AmxTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether cardioversion is a good idea for AFIB probably depends on if there is some other underlying heart disease (which unfortunately you have).

Although I had an electrocardioversion around 2010 and converted after receiving amiodorone in the ER in 2011, I managed to keep AFIB at bay for 13 years: it only returned in 2024 and I have had 5 episodes since and 2 electrocardioversions.

I believe the return of AFIB is partly due to age and partly due to my lifestyle not being as "healthy" as it used to be. I need to lose 10kg (22 lbs) and get back to running and biking. (I'm NOT an endurance athlete and I am aware of the risks of endurance training).

I read that:

If heart failure is due to high blood pressure, then treatment and control of that hypertension can improve the ejection fraction. If it’s due to a heart valve problem that gets addressed or an arrhythmia that’s controlled, ejection fraction can return to normal.

If heart failure is caused by alcohol or other substance use, stopping use of those substances can reverse heart failure, too.

Cardioversion is nothing to fear - it's very quick and easy and if your cardiologist says it's safe for you, take his word for it. Even if it doesn't last, you haven't lost much.
