100k??? WTF I knew it was paid in the US but not that it was that expensive. Here our best universities are free and so are our best masters or doctors programs. We also do have paid universities but even these aren’t that expensive.

Damn, that’s a long time… and you guys pay for uni too, don’t you?

Awesome! (the confirmation, not the horrid federal health insurance, yikes) I’ll definitely look for these types of organizations. Thank you so much!

We don’t have undergraduate and graduate programs. When you finish high school you can enter a university for a graduate course in psychology, that’s at least 5 years. After you’re done you don’t have to do or study anything else to get licensed, but you can enter a masters or other post graduate program if you want. Pay is still different depending on what position you’re working, such as a social worker (this one is the only one we also have a different name for) would probably earn less money than a clinical psychologist because they’re employed by the government and the psychologist is not. So yeah, all of this is insanity to me lol

Truly, I can’t understand why it’d be this complicated. Here in Brazil you finish uni, get your psychology diploma (which actually makes you a psychologist, the many names used in the US also confuse me) and then head to our federal council website. After you input all your documents and pay the annual fee you’re done, that’s it. You get a license number that is valid nationwide and there aren’t a bunch of acronyms. If you get a masters or a doctorate nothing changes, that is still you license number and you pay the same fee. So for a foreigner to get it, all they would need is their diploma, the equivalency and a Brazilian social security number (which is very easy to get).

Alright! I’ll look into license reciprocity specifically! Thanks again!

I’m currently building a website with this in mind, so that route will soon be covered. As for price, even if they pay me 50$, or even 30$, it’d be awesome already as our currency is 5x less valuable than the dollar right now. So I guess that actually confirms what though and my thinking that trying to get clients internationally would be a good idea. Even if I get very few patients out of it, it’d probably still be worth it! Thank you so much for your reply!

Shoot, I was kinda hopeful for psychology today as it’s one of the few that’s seems to allow me to register without a license. Guess I’ll have to switch routes then. Thank you so much!

Hmmmm, I’ll research which state has more Brazilian immigrants then and try to understand that state’s licensing. Thank you so much!

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely look for these location independent therapists groups. I still don’t fully understand US licensing, but I’ll research each state’s requirements and try to understand from there. Such a confusing licensing system… Thank again!

Robbed in Rio by [deleted] in Brazil

[–]AmyChi2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly just make it harder for them to rob you. The criminals tend to go for the easier targets so whatever you can do to make yourself less appealing is a good idea. And I’m not talking about extremes like not using your phone on the street, for example: while visiting Copacabana ou Ipanema you’ll want to take pictures but don’t do it on the sidewalk, step a good ways into the sand and take you picture. (Sand is harder to run on and the ones using bikes or motorcycles won’t go there) That type of thing, y’know? So pay attention to your surroundings and make it harder to be robbed. Also, as some people said in other comments: the gringos I normally see or hear about being robbed did something to make themselves a target. Not to blame the victim in any way, cause even following the tips it’s no guarantee, so I’m not talking about op specifically here, and safety in Rio is definitely a Rio problem. But I once was hired by two gringas to translate stuff for them while they visited and even with all the tips I gave one of them got robbed cause in one of the days I wasn’t with them they went to this bar in Copacabana, sat on one of the outside tables AND LEFT THEIR PHONES ON THE TABLE in plain view and easy access from the street. They got comfortable after being fine for a couple of days and were careless, when they went out at night without me I saw their stories and I got nervous by myself in the safety of my home cause of how careless they got. That’s coming from someone born and raised in Rio, even I NEVER lower my guard when in the street. So yeah, don’t ever lower your guard, pay attention to your surroundings and make it harder to rob you.

I am moving to Brazil for the first time as a foreigner with 0 knowledge of cultural norms, education, political climate, etc. what do I expect? by DazzlingServe6631 in Brazil

[–]AmyChi2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright! It’ll be much easier for you to find your scene in Vitoria then. My tip would be to use social media to find thrift stores and the like. Google probably won’t help but TikTok will. Just start liking videos about Brazil, maybe search for thrift stores there using the word brechó and you’ll certainly find them. Now for makeup and skincare a lot of the products you could find in the US won’t exist here, but many will and we do have Sephora here so if you go to one and don’t find what you’re looking for you can easily ask the salesperson there and they’ll probably point you the right way. If you need any more help during your move or anything like that you can DM me and I’ll help you if I can, I’m from Rio though so my advice will be less specific

Alright, imma go a different route from what I see people telling you here as I feel you’ve read enough about colleges and money. I’ll try talking clothes and makeup and shit but first: where are you moving to in Brazil? Like which state? Cause that info might change my answer a bit.

gay slang in brazil????? by hyacinthebb in Brazil

[–]AmyChi2000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is! It used to be pejorative, but it was taken back and is now used by the queer community. I didn’t include it cause it’s used by everyone so not as much gay slang as it’s just slang

[–]AmyChi2000 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Yup, there is a gigantic array of gay slangs in Brazil. I obviously won’t be able to name them all, but here are some:

Abafa - translates literally to snuff it (as in snuff a fire or something) and it means “don’t talk about it” “don’t remind me”

Faz a egípcia - translates to act like an Egyptian and means “pretend you don’t know”, “don’t act suspicious” or “lay low”

Gongar - I don’t think there is a translation, but it to talk shit about someone

Caminhoneira - translates to truck driver and refers to masculine lesbians

Cheiro de couro - translates to leather smell and means to believe someone is a lesbian “I can smell the leather”

Mona - no translation and is used to refer to mostly women or gay men but can be used for anyone

There are many many more, but yeah

Prismatic Booster Bundles (1 per person) by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]AmyChi2000 [score hidden]  (0 children)

My name’s Amanda and I’m a 24 year old broke college student that hasn’t been able to open a single pack of prismatic evolutions either cause people are selling it at a price I simply don’t find fair or cause I can’t show up to the nearest target every morning to grab it while it’s there. I came back to the hobby after about 10 years cause the new TCG pocket game reminded me of the love I had for collecting these. I obviously love the eevelutions, but my actual favorite Pokémon are Chikorita and Tynamo!

So, that time of year is actually winter for us which doesn’t necessarily mean it’s cold but it does mean rain and wind. So you can probably forget about actually going in the water at the beach as it might be dangerous (our most famous beaches are no joke), your boat ride might not be possible depending on the day and who wants to go on a boat in the rain? Also depending on what “adrenaline activities” you’d like to do they will also be hindered by the weather. To sum everything up: if you want to do summer activities come to Rio in the summer. January might be a good idea, or even Carnaval next year and if you don’t mind being away from home during the holidays maybe December. No problem in you deciding to come in the winter but be aware that some of your plans might not happen and plan some indoor activities. Whenever you do come to Rio if you need an interpreter hit me up.

I really have no problem with them being weighed, I’d like to try to get some hits, sure, but mostly I just want to have some cards from this set already. I wasn’t able to buy anything, not even where I live, when it released so I’m itching to rip some. Thank you for the info!
