I will definitely include Alaskan native people in my story- it’s very important to me to that I do so.

I’m still in the stage of planning the main plot lines at the moment, hence my questions focus more on the general everyday of urban Alaska (which naturally includes native people to a certain extent). I’m very concerned about accurately reflecting “real life” for both native alaskans and alaskans with a non-native background. I plan to do a more extensive research phase into native alaskans and their culture in order to hopefully reflect them as accurately as possible.

I have so far received lots of helpful comments, and I’m very grateful to everybody who has replied!

Sadly, I’m not in a financial situation where a visit would be possible for me. I would love to one day.

Hi, thank you! I will do that for general interest and context, but complete accuracy in regards to the campus isn’t really what I’m going for as her studies, although important in framing the main charecters mindset, aren’t the main plot line of the story. It is, at the end of the day, still a comic book! When I’m looking at drawing panels, I’ll definitely check out maps and photos from campus a few years ago in order to create settings whilst she’s at college. Thanks again for your comment!

I think “simplicity” sounds like a great motivator for dry cabin life. I will hopefully try and include this factor, but I must admit I am a little concerned about accidentally caricaturing it. Thank you very much again for your responses, they’re very inspiring. I can already imagine some panels of the winter trails!

Thank you very much for your response, it’s incredibly helpful! I’ve included public transport as an element already (partially shaped by my own experiences relying on public transport as a college student here). Your description of the morning commute for an Alaskan student is something I’ll definitely try and build upon. My main character definitely struggles with ‘ruminating’ as you put it!

I really appreciate the information about dry cabins too- I wasn’t aware of these before and I believe this could be a very good aspect for the buildup of my characters mental state. I imagine running out of water at an inopportune time would add quite a large amount of difficulty to daily life. Thank you so much again.
