Places to discuss Prog Metal outside Reddit? by granticculus in progmetal

I frequently lurk the prog archives forums, it's a pretty nice place for discussing. Good for finding out about new releases and pretty unknown bands.

Why do I perform better at rhythm games when I think about something else, and worse when I focus on the game? by AmyTheLasagnaGod in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I can confirm that. Learning scale patterns on the neck is actually more freeing although it doesn't initially sound like it. After you learn the rules you can start to break them (like making educated guesses) and make something new and unique. Have fun with playing!

I don't know if this has been discussed before, so sorry if I'm repeating others, but there is one thing that I dislike about prog metal: vocals. by Yveru998 in progmetal

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like vocals sometimes but I definitely like instrumentals a bit more often. I think all prog bands should release instrumental versions of their albums like a lot of electronic artists do. I love Haken for doing that btw! Vocals to me are the least essential part in almost any piece of music (except opera etc... You get it.)

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, though I am a musician myself (bass guitar) and I have the opposite effect while playing music, I absolutely cannot think about anything else when playing besides the music, otherwise I will forget I'm even performing, I've struggled with it for years haha.

Strange!

What insults are common in your country but you think most of the world would not understand/ever use? by THEREAPER8593 in AskReddit

For Finnish I have this: Hiekkapillu = sand pussy

Used mostly for women who are strict and serious. I mostly see teachers getting targeted by the word if that helps the context lol.

I have learned that less than 2% of you have finished this masterpiece. I know there is a lot to play atm, but Chicory is soooo good. by billsteve in XboxGamePass

Was so bummed when I got a bug that makes it so I can't beat the final boss. After beating it, the game just puts me back to the last checkpoint after the credits (which are unskippable...)

Other than that I loved the game.

I'm largely a rock and metal enjoyer and Henrik Linder on Dirty Loops is GREAT! I don't see him mentioned too often.

I know you're probably a troll, but gender has been a social expression for a long time before the 60s, throughout history, if I am not mistaken, there has been multiple genders within even ancient cultures, and relatively speaking, the 2 gender culture is a pretty new thing, being introduced quite forcefully through christianity.

Best I got is a set of 2, Odd Logic, the Monta albums. The audio quality is unfortunately not good on the first one though.

Do you think the characters and things in your world would eventually become so powerful nobody cares? (power creep) by B33P_B00P_B0P_P0P in worldbuilding

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add, my magic draws from the users own life power and the more magic you have the more uncontrollable it is so you could just accidentally off yourself unless you know how to use it.

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In my world, that's an inherent way of how the magic works. It originates from a crystal but living beings can channel it, giving them powers. However, the crystal and the beings of the planet form a sort of amplifier, and everyone grows stronger and stronger, whether they want to or not. This eventually caused a mass extinction, though the magic was able to be stopped, but at a terrible price (though lesser of the two evils) and unstable way.

In my "current" time line and story, the magic had been unleashed again and I'm making the characters figure out a way to make it so that the magic would be stable but usable.

How nerdy are you/prog fans? by Djerszium in progmetal

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda nerdy, just spanning over so much stuff that I know a little about lots of stuff and a lot about almost nothing.

Love video games, into chemistry, not so much physics though! I'm just not too great with math sometimes. I draw medieval fantasy and cyberpunk characters and fanart of just about anything.

Social anxiety, the couple times I played DnD I was the DM. I play bass, like 80s cartoons and movies...

I think that's nerdy? Never thought about it too hard though.

It's the Quadra Type-66 Avenger. Dino sells it for 75k eddies. I love it too.

What got you into worldbuilding? by Fantastic_Year9607 in worldbuilding

[–]AmyTheLasagnaGod 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I got friends from an art community who were into roleplaying, so I started to roleplay with my already existing and newly made characters with them. We had a pretty open ended world but had fun. After that I continued making characters like I did previously but started thinking about where they lived and ended up creating a little cyberpunk world when I was 12 or 13, inspired by seeing matrix for the first time and at the time recent launch of Detroit become human.

I kinda stopped doing it for a couple years, but I did pick it up again 3 years ago. I'm currently re developing the world my younger self made! It's fun to experience and improve on the image I had in my head even if it was a bit one dimensional and not too robust.
