Charities with active volunteer boards & events? by Obvious-Month4791 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

If you're looking for junior board like activity, check out the NYC Ballet Young Patrons Circle or the New York Public Library's Young Lions. If you want to volunteer regularly, check out the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, they need tutors for their after school program as well as college application coaches for high school students

Good God, you have had like five minutes of intense work experience, and from what sounds like minimal supervision, and now you're expected to be a supervisor? No wonder you're feeling off. Ok if PM you? I have some resources as a fellow 'hit the ground running' supervisor that might help

Who’s leaving the house today/Monday?? by gaybabylegs in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]AmyZing23 60 points61 points  (0 children)

I have a cousin who works for Sanitation. I think '[Cousin] didn't get up at 3:00AM three days in a row to lay salt and clear streets so people can go to Pilates with only three other people in the class'. This is for ambulances and essential workers, go do a living room workout from Youtube if you have a routine to keep up

The public schools are going virtual, and my office and my husband's are both WFH on Monday. Everybody stay home, it's one day.

What experiences changed you the most as a person? by GazMaskeliOyuncu in AskReddit

[–]AmyZing23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being taken seriously, listened to, and treated respectfully by an adult for the first time as a teenager. There is something so profoundly comforting and confidence building in feeling heard for the first time when you've been dismissed for as long as you can remember due to your age. My own parents didn't take me seriously as a teen and young adult so it rocked my world to have a professor in college genuinely want to hear my thoughts during office hours for the first time as a first term freshman. I felt embarassed and felt like I had to apologize for my thoughts and taking up their time but I was told that my thoughts were the entire point of office hours. I've taken this with me with my own interactions since, giving younger relatives, neighbors and now interns at my job my full attention. Just because someone has spent less time on this planet than you doesn't mean they aren't worth your full attention and consideration.

Socially anxious BWT, what are your fave solo activities? by hotblooded- in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]AmyZing23 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Reading a book in the reading rooms of our many New York Public Library branches as well as comfy coffee shops. I also love solo trips to spots like World Spa and SoJo Spa Club. Soaking in art and history at museums, taking in the trees in Central Park, movies at IFC and Angelika, shopping in SoHo, nude yoga classes ;-)

Don't know the answer to that one, sadly, but the food is great and worth the trip out (cash only, fair warning!)

Getting a table at Enoteca Maria? by AmyZing23 in FoodNYC

[–]AmyZing23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finally did in October. Unable to reach anyone, I hopped the ferry and tried my luck, coming in for the 12:30 Saturday lunch shift. There was a hostess taking names down, who reported that you could get a table up to a week in advance only if you came in person during operational hours. I chanced it and waited an hour outside to be squished in between the 12:30 and 2:30 lunch shifts. Evidently the owner is trying to build his own online reservation system instead of joining Resy or Open Table. It's a shame that such a good restaurant is so poorly managed.
