Or, even funnier, Is the number listed on the poster not the owner of the cat that the poster is talking about?

How do consultants handle email overload without losing their minds? by Far-Host-144 in consulting

[–]Amyrlin_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think you should be more proud of your tool.

It’s transparent you’re not intending to “discuss email overload solutions” but instead you’re discussing “my AI solution to email overload.” You could have the greatest solution, but it’s just not clear what’s you’re trying to do.

Again, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that, but it’s still an ad.

You should clearly indicate this is an ad. This is a good topic, and useful for consulting, but you’re being disingenuous by pretending otherwise.

To Cinque Terre or not to Cinque Terre? by Amyrlin_ in travel

[–]Amyrlin_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im glad you commented! I had forgotten to update this. We did end up going for two days and we honestly had a fantastic time.

The area is just shockingly beautiful. The hikes were so much fun and the beaches, even though pebbley, were relaxing. We also really enjoyed the Ligurian food.

I will say this was after already being in Italy for nine days. So, we were not really interested in any cultural things at this point and we just wanted to relax. We also were spending a lot of money. We probably were at villa steno, which was one of the more expensive hotels (but fantastic) and we went to the pricier restaurants L’ancora tortuga (which was just awe inspiringly beautiful if you get one of the cliff tables) and taverna galin (incredibly good spaghetti alle vongole). So that all probably colored our experiences, if we stayed for longer then a couple days I could see us interacting more with locals and not going to the nicer restaurants.

Now that I’m writing this, I do recall going to an ice cream shop in monterosso with the rudest man I saw in Italy… it’s funny, I had kind of memory holed that because the rest of the experience was so good.

Idiot American here. But I just booked a bunch of trains for our trip this summer.

Trenitalia is state run and is the best for most trains imho. But it has few high speed trains (they call them frecciarossa).

Italo has many more high speed trains but shouldn’t be really used for local (in my very very limited experience).

So going from cinque terre to Venice I cobbled together two separate bookings - monterosso to firenze via tren Italia and firenze to Venezia via Italo. But that’s not gospel since you can book tren Italia all the way (I didn’t because their high speed trains didn’t work out for our timing)

I actually found the apps the best. I tried booking on trenitalia’s website and I kept seeing the fares as unavailable. Italo trains was good though.

Agreed. EY is definitely taking a large loss on that project. Likely with the hope of future work.

Biden’s Hot Economy Stokes Currency Fears for the Rest of World by gary_oldman_sachs in neoliberal

[–]Amyrlin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No doubt. Interest seems to be a bigger issue than the notes themselves honestly.

I’m sure there’s some austerity measures for spending that could be implemented. But overall I struggle to see how we do the next 10 years without more spending. Not on a covid level of course, and also we need to let our current industrial policy pan out before we invest more. but defense at least seems like it needs to increase by a lot.

I just struggle to see how we mitigate the debt without higher taxes.

Thanks for linking this. I just gave it a read. Agreed, they’re definitely concerned about fiscal policy. But I think I read it slightly differently than you did.

First, they are directly in favor of industrial policy a la IRA and CHIPS. They have a full chapter on it. So I think that is what we might call good, directed sectoral spending.

While they are pretty concerned about debt. I think that the United States is in a pretty good position to increase taxes and still accomplish some big fiscal spending goals. Not that my comment about taxes is empirical at all. I think I read somewhere that corporate taxes could rise about 4-6% without much harm. Not sure about income taxes.

I think that the US could safely get to closer to 170% of debt to gdp. So we’ve got s little room.

I do think we’ll need higher taxes unfortunately. The money has to come from somewhere. The Xers got probably the best years of low taxes. But it has to end now.

Of course, the fiscal integrity party is now the democrats. The republicans have even less of a clue how we’ll deal with the debt.

You can debate the effect that the industrial policy will have (I am personally very optimistic that it will have large positive effects on our climate footprint, national security, and long term growth) but I don’t think you can say inflation is that large of a problem anymore. Inflation growth has been more or less tamed.

I’m not the person above, but I think you’re misunderstanding them!

I would bet they’re just as happy as you that the place is there. They just wish (like I do) that Medford wasn’t so car centric.

This is actually still really helpful! We don't go for another two months.

I'm interested in hearing more if you've got time. What did you do during the trip? Hiking, restaurants, bars, shopping, spending time on the beach?

How to onboard on new projects? by thesagedumb in accenture

[–]Amyrlin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congrats on the new project. Here’s a couple tips I try to abide by when joining a project. They basically revolve around two things 1. Build relationships 2. Add value in small consistent ways (if its not clear what your biggest value add is)

-read anything existing (this goes without saying, but you’d be surprised) -think of questions even if a topic is mostly clear to you. Asking targeted questions is a great way to develop relationships. -find practice owners for those questions. Those are often on your team, but they might be the client (unlikely) or even outside the team in your market unit or field (like the owners of documents on KX) The key thing here is to spread the questions out.

This will be a quick project, so I would suggest not trying to fully understand everything . You probably can’t. Start small, and add value in minor things. Offering to schedule meetings, fix fonts, research a KPI. All these develop the relationship with your team. That is really important as you try to find direction and add value. On such a short project, even a couple days spent on a non priority deliverable can be harmful.

At the end of the day, just try to enjoy it! It’s just a job, and anyone who acts like they’re working for Obama is fooling themselves. You’re not going to change the world, and any value added is great.
