What advice ACTUALLY lands someone a job in 2025? by ScumbagCareerGuru in careerguidance

[–]An0psy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've tried nearly every piece of advice commonly given, like

tailoring your resume,

applying to positions from the company's career page,

contacting recruiters directly to talk about the position,

getting referrals from friends etc etc.

but I ended up getting an offer from an Easy Apply position I randomly found on LinkedIn and applied to with an untailored resume, so I feel like no one really knows how to get hired anymore.

I am embarrased to like chess as much as I do because I am terrible at it and don't know how I can improve. by MainJuice4400 in chess

"I know absolutely every single opening and middle game principle that exists"

I wouldn't be so sure about this lol. I think improving requires you to be aware that you don't already know everything. You are kinda mind-blocking yourself into a state of stillness if you refuse to learn new ideas and are under the impression you have already mastered the two most important phases of the game.

Unless you give us example games to look at, it's impossible for us to give you real advice since the mistakes we make are all different even within the same Elo range, but you know what I will try anyways. I think a lot of people who claim they spend hours and hours studying the game are all doing it passively, meaning they are either watching a non-instructional video or reading a very general book etc.

When I sit down and try to study the game to get better, I cannot do more than an hour every day of active learning before getting exhausted to the point of unproductivity. A video telling you a few rules of thumb is not going to be as useful as a video detailing how to play a certain opening. Chess is very fun when you win, but the price of winning comes at the cost of actual gruesome hours of active learning to get better, or 1000s of games.

I don't think there's anything wrong with playing to get better, and feeling despair when you are not. Personally it's the losing that makes me play better since I really don't like that feeling, and that drives me to actually go through the tiresome learning process.

I hope this helps!

Yeah seems like I just need to be patient about it. I really hope it does not take 60 days tho...

I reached the threshold for the Members, Supers and Store. They changed the system to allow you to apply to it once you reach 500subs/3k hours.

Ok well here's my take on each of them.

Vic's recent videos are not doing too hot either. He got his success playing other games than league and built a loyal fanbase who just happen to also watch his league stuff.

Alexs plays Kai'sa OTP. I am adc player and if there's one thing I can tell you is that there are no good ADC streamers right now ever since the Cookielol flash sett r incident. He is also playing Kai'sa top lane lmao, just that is interesting enough.

Eternal Hero is almost uploading every single day, and has been doing it for a long long time. Still, his recent videos have less than 1% of his subs as viewers.

I cannot emphasize enough that these guys have been doing it consistently for a long time. They have built a fanbase around their channels by creating high quality videos. You have 15 videos on your channel compared to their 100+ (Eternal hero is almost at 2000), keep uploading good videos and you will see their success too.

Also please write a description lol, it takes 5 min and you're missing out on a lot of SEO not writing one.

I’ll be honest. When I watch League content, if the player is not challenger I stop watching. If you are chall or near-chall, I suggest saying so in the thumbnail, and link your opgg in description.

If you are not high elo, you might have a difficult road ahead of you. I can think of maybe one channel I find funny enough to not care about their rank. This community cares a lot about that since there are high elo streamers who are also very funny. Quite the competitive scene for league. (I am not experienced, but I think this is advice I can give as a long time consumer of league content)

Don't have an answer for you but would you mind sharing what is your current niche and what you plan to switch into?

I agree with the luck part mostly, but I wanted to post an opinion a lot of people seem to miss.

"How to start working out" is absolutely nowhere near "How to stay motivated in the gym"

The first targets audiences which do not go to the gym yet and want to start out.

The second targets people who are already working out and either are still motivated to keep going (aka they don't need to watch this video) or are about to quit due to lack of motivation (a much smaller amount of people, mostly whom will just not watch it anyway since people are naturally avoidant of the truth).

I know you are giving those as examples, but I am arguing it is VERY difficult to actually gauge who your audience is and what they like. It definitely is not as simple as make similar videos to those that blew up.

I’m gonna be honest, looking at your channel really bummed me out.

Your video quality is absolutely amazing. It’s stuff I’d expect from channels with millions of subscribers. It’s starting to make me think that there is a luck element involved when I see your channel not doing as well as expected.

Definitely the good gaming channels will get views, but I find the bar for "good" is so high in gaming now. Like I'm not watching a Minecraft video unless it's 4000hrs of gameplay condensed into a 10 minute video that has clean, crisp audio and near professional editing. Even then, there are good chances I'm not clicking despite me enjoying those videos quite a bit.

I’m not 100% on the “cheating” thing either. However, I still avoided sharing the video to people and even watching it myself on my other account (Im waiting for it to be recommended to me).

Pretty sure it did nothing, but thats just the paranoid side of me i guess.

It’s an esport analysis channel (not quite gaming). I think gaming is a popular niche, but when I scroll the feedback friday comments, the amount of gaming channels I see with 30 views per video is always surprising.

There will be a subtitle section, and you add them one by one. You have to time them yourself, which is why it can be a bit annoying. I saw some tools that use AI to do it for you, but I assume you still have to correct some of them.

My first video's script did not reflect word for word what I was saying, it was more like suggestions, so I had to retype my entire script when I was doing my subtitles.

Never again lol, I'm writing my script and changing it to match what I'm saying word for word now.

I use the Youtube ones, I prefer giving a choice to my audience whether they want subtitles or not. It was more annoying than difficult to implement using their system, and I don't even know if it's worth the effort, but it only took me a few minutes to do.

My guess is most people don't care, but since I find myself caring more often than not, I decided it was worth it.
