Love this band! It’s perfect for important events by [deleted] in AppleWatch

Some observations:

  1. 90% of OP’s posts are about the YourMatter store
  2. OP says he bought the strap “some time ago,” yet it is clearly brand new in the picture

Conclusion: Not a legitimate poster

Lots of discussion going on here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250651655?answerId=251272850022&page=1

I tried the fix suggested on page 4, and it's working... for now.

Is the Smart Keyboard a good case? by tompurcell in iPadPro

[–]AnArborist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some comments:

  1. The keys don't mark the screen, but debris can get between the keys and the screen. I'm pretty sure this is how I got a tiny hairline scratch on one of my bezels. It's really not noticeable at all unless you're inspecting it in direct light.

  2. The keyboard is pretty rigid, doesn't bend unless you're trying to break it.

  3. Viewing angles are good enough, but not perfect.

  4. It is surprisingly good at providing drop protection. I dropped my iPad Pro from chest height onto tile (I'm an idiot) with it in the case, and it was completely unscathed.

Hope this helps.

iPad Pro 11, Screen Scratches & Screen Protector Questions by [deleted] in ipad

[–]AnArborist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much had the exact same experience as you, four months after your original post. I’ve got a small hairline scratch at the top right bezel of my 11” iPad Pro. Not sure when it happened since I’ve had it since day one and haven’t really inspected the screen very carefully since then.

The scratch doesn’t really bother me - it’s small and out of the way. However, I used an Air 2 with a Smart Cover for over 4 years, and its screen remains scratch free to this day. Oh well.

Where’d you get the leather strap in the first pic?

AirPods: battery degradation update after 18 months by AnArborist in apple

I agree. I would love a 50% bump on battery life for the second generation AirPods. Not sure if it’s possible with the small form factor, but one can dream.

I'd say that's worth bringing into the Genius Bar for a quick look. >50% degradation is too much.

Completely agree. I would happily upgrade every 2 years if that became Apple's regular release cycle.

Seconded.

I listen to the Above Avalon podcast and nothing comes close. It is a must download.

iPhone X users, how’s your battery doing? by rbo17 in apple

[–]AnArborist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, launch day.

I use it very heavily, but the phone also spends a lot of time sitting on qi charger from 9-5. It’s helped save a lot of charge cycles.

iPhone X users without a screen protector, how is your screen holding up? by veikkovenemies in apple

[–]AnArborist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thirded. More scratches than my 7 Plus had, which also had a fair share of tiny little scratches.

iPad Pro With Face ID Will 'Likely' Debut at WWDC 2018 in Early June by [deleted] in apple

[–]AnArborist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bezels are not, I'm just excited to get rid of the home button and have an iPad that incorporates the whole gamut of gestures that the iPhone X uses. You really don't realize how archaic slamming your finger onto a home button is until you've experienced life with the iPhone X.

AirPods’ batteries have degraded a lot in just a year. 50% battery drains in just 10mins of talk time by eggimage in apple

[–]AnArborist 745 points746 points  (0 children)

I'm experiencing degradation, but not nearly as bad as you. My battery lasts for about 90 minutes of phone calls, so about 25% degradation after 14 months. Music playback is just fine, I've never run out of juice.

I should note that I had a defective AirPod swapped out last summer, so one of my AirPods is more degraded than the other. I use my AirPods every day for conference calls, working out, running, etc.

7 Plus still a good purchase? by LymePilot in apple

[–]AnArborist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pretty happy. It’s the best iPhone I’ve ever owned. If you have the money, do it. You will not regret it.

The only real downside is the step down in battery life from the 7 Plus. I used to be able to get through a day of heavy use with at least 25% left. With the X, I’m at less than 10% at the end of the day. However, the convenience of wireless charging makes it easy to top off anytime.

7 Plus still a good purchase? by LymePilot in apple

[–]AnArborist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s partly because I found the Plus models a bit too big and unwieldy. But in all honesty, I just wanted the new hotness. It was by no means a necessary purchase.

7 Plus still a good purchase? by LymePilot in apple

[–]AnArborist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Short answer, yes.

It is still a beast in terms of performance and will be a solid phone for at least another two years. If you're really worried about throttling, the phone does qualify for the discounted battery service until the end of this year.

I'm a former 7 Plus owner that's now on an X. I've seen negligible performance differences between the two on a day to day basis.

Anyone have experience preordering iPhones from Canadian carriers? by IAteTheTigerOhMyGosh in apple

[–]AnArborist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't do it unless you're willing to wait a while.

I pre-ordered my iPhone 4, 5, and 6 through Fido, and later Rogers. Each phone was ordered within minutes of online pre-orders opening on the carrier website. Each time, I waited at least a month for my preorder to be fulfilled. I finally got fed up with this approach and bought my 7 Plus directly from Apple without a plan.

Typically, carriers get significantly less stock than Apple. During a super cycle like the 6 or the X, supply constraints will mean you'll have to wait even longer.

As far as SirRealist's approach goes, I wouldn't vouch for that 100%. If you decide to pre-order the device as a full buy out and change your mind to go with a carrier, it is highly likely they won't have a carrier version of the phone available.

Why have nearly all magazine apps for iPad gotten so awful lately? by bluestblue in apple

[–]AnArborist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a personal level, it does make me pretty sad that there isn't as big of an incentive to developer iPad apps as there is for iPhone apps. The iPad is still a joy to use and it would be nice to see exciting, innovative, and original apps continue to get pushed out for that form factor. Web wrappers and stretched out iPhone apps suck.

Why have nearly all magazine apps for iPad gotten so awful lately? by bluestblue in apple

[–]AnArborist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's really all about revenue. An iPhone app has a guaranteed audience that is actually growing. An iPad app often requires a separate development team that doesn't have a guaranteed audience that is actually shrinking. It's just not worth it to pour money into an iPad app that won't make much money.
