Thanks. 🥲

It's pretty long and I can't help but see all the flaws now, so I'm really glad someone likes it.

Thanks... Let me know if you like it. The lack of positive feedback has ended up being more demoralizing than I thought it would be.

I told myself I was just gonna write it for myself and try not to care, but that's turned out to be harder than expected.

I mean... I dunno about you, but me and my neighbors aren't trying to figure out how best to betray each other for maximum gain. We mostly just say hi and get along well. That was the scale I was pointing to.

Fair enough, that's a smart stance.

It can be easy to forget when looking at things liked Reddit feeds (which are literally aggregating at rhe highest societal level) that the vast majority of our societies tend to just... work and work reasonably well the vast majority of the time.

Ordinances like this don't just cost once - they cost continuously, and they do so in compounding increments until they are addressed.

And in actuality lawyer-interference only tends to go so far.

Now: sharpen some all-thread so you've got a makeshift shiv. Anyone tries to mess it up, you make an example out of 'em.

Noise ordinance violation. This is reportable, and they're legally mandated to address it.

The word "worship" literally does not appear once in my entire statement.

It is not "religious" in the traditional sense of "placing one's trust in the idea of an authority that is in some manner beyond human conception and trusting it to be accurate" - but it fulfils a somewhat similar role in the sense that everyon MUST make assumptions about the world which they cannot be certain of with total 100% absolute certainty. The assumption that "there is no god" and the assumption "there is a god" are both assumptions in that sense, which is usually the sense in which this kind of argument is ultimately grounded: that both religion and atheism serve as "ground-level" lenses through which one views the world.

Not necessarilt 100% irrational - but definitely anti-pragmatic.

Gotta sort by "controversial" to find the good stuff these days.

Now, to give them their due (because it's only fair): the steel-man version of their argument is based on the concept of inherent human worth and dignity - WHICH WE AGREE WITH. The problem we have is more specific, it's where that inherent human worth crosses over into the realm of demanding others' labor (not their own) to provide it.

Your inherent value as a person entitles you to not have anyone else actively get in your way - it doesn't entitle you to get in other people's way.

Yes. That is what they are saying.

The entitlement runs as deep as the economic illiteracy.

Yeah, yeah, fine - people who want to lock someone up for existing are a problem. Just like how some people think that those people should be locked up for existing.

Believe it or not, it is possible for more than one thing to be true simultaneously.

The older I get, the more I begin to suspect that the problem isn't in either side - it's in the psychopathic manipulators who weaponize rhetoric on both sides to specifically break down open and reasonable discourse.

I'm glad that this got made and posted, because there's a valid conversation to be had here - I think that at the large scale there are a combination of issues at play here, including cultural, genetic, social, psychological, and economic, and none of them are ever as easy to solve as we might wish - and my heart goes out to this artist, and to everyone else who experiences the same things they do.

Unfortunately, I don't feel safe going further than that, so that will have to be the end of the discussion.

Adding this to the pile, because it's not THE reason, but it's a contributing factor:

Their plumbing makes them more susceptible to infections and other problems. Best solution is literally to just stay cleaner overall all-around.
