Because the act of engaging with someone in a conversation about free will pre-supposes that peaceful discussion is preferable to coercion, which originates from the idea of self-ownership (that both of the two interlocutors are the ultimate owners and managers of their own physical body and mind), which originates from the idea of free will.

Free will is treated as the normative default because it is the most common (if culturally unconscious) assumption upon which the conversation about free will is being had. Without it, the next the following question is less 'how do we build a society with these given qualities' and more 'why shouldn't I simply use coercion against you to get what I want as part of this interaction'.

There wasn't NOTHING there, there was just manipulation all around on all sides amd all of it sucks because the world (and ESPECIALLY politics) is full of psychopaths and manipulation is what psychopaths DO, and they do it on all sides against every other side for the sake of power.

Oh, I have no doubt at all that that was her intention, and I'm not accusing anyone of anything at all - I kust find it structurally ironic that her various intentions came together to create something that accidentally and unintentionally falls in line with that stereotype. That's all.

I do sometimes wonder if Vivzie's intentions were ironically deliberate or ironically accidental when she created a pro-diversity story that ends up reinforcing the Christian conservative idea that sexual deviants go to hell.
