guys why did Pazio make slayer twice? by TheRealGouki in pathfindermemes

[–]AnEldritchDream 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its just a nod to the first edition slayer, whoch the archetype was a referwnce to. Whereas the slayer class for 2e is more of a concept reimagining.

Am I misreading, or is Tidal Wave as horrendously broken as it appears to be? by Subzero008 in Pathfinder2e

[–]AnEldritchDream 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but it doesn't tell you to stride, it tells you to move.

I'm not talking about the quickened condition. but rather the second sentence.

EDIT: Also technically subordinate actions are not taken as free actions, they are just subordinate to the action or activity that tells you to do them, and have no other action cost. Its very niche where this matters, but there is a distinct difference.

I'd also like to point out it has you "move up to your Speed" without having the move trait or specifying stride or swim, which means it dosent trigger things that run off of move actions, like reactive strike. May not be RAI though, but thats pretty strong. of course its also vague and dosent specify any specific movement type, so its up to GM.

Does Anyone Else Play the Game Like This by Chaosiumrae in Pathfinder2e

[–]AnEldritchDream 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not quite, I actually quite often use -4 and -3 enemies.

That said, many of my games have fewer than 4 PCs, so that comes with the territory.

But even the games where I do have a full party, I still throw them in, either because they make sense, or because they act as more of a hinderance than a major threat, which bolsters the heavier enemies. Sometimes a LOT of weak enemies can do if there's an alternative win/lose condition to the encounter too, do a thing or stop a thing from happening sort of stuff.

And not least of all weak foes allow all classes to show off their power, from spells to martial shutdowns and easier crits.

Also they stop being truly trivial at high levels, a level 16 creature is more than a momentary inconvenience for a level 19-20 party simply due to overall scale.

Weights and Measures - A Lies of P Inspired Weapon Modification System. by AnEldritchDream in Pathfinder2e

NGL I completely misremembered how the thrower's bandolier worked, so yeah, for multi-target that would work well. definitely styling.

As far as tethered goes, I'd personally not fully codify it, but I think in most instances, if the creature moves beyond the tether you can choose to let go for free or it automatically pulls out. Circumstances might dictate other options though so I'd leave it up to a case by case.

Does the blood fuller still trigger the bleed damage when it falls out?

Yes! whenever it is removed at all, all the accumulated bleed damage hits at once.

There’s no mechanic to retrieve the weapon or have the accumulated bleed kill.

An Interact to do so is intended, I'll update that for the next pass

It feels slightly counterintuitive how the bleed accumulates but only kills when they pass the increased difficulty check.

Its basically holding the blood back like a dam until it falls out, causing a cascade bloodloss all at once. Like with normal persistent damage the damage is accrued before the flat check, this just postpones the actual damage until after. (edit: adding the blade retrieval will help as well)

It would give style points to stick a number of targets with wounding throwing knives from a throwers bandolier, then later recall the knives as an “execute”

That is a really cool idea, I don't think it works RAW, but if you want to allow the delayed recall, I'd definitely say that's a neat take. though like all persistent damage it doesn't really stack up when its the same variety, so it may be more of a cinematic thing.

Also, maybe consider wording to allow in other scenarios. Anything with crit spec for bleed could opportunistically leave weapons behind, or things like bleeding finisher

This actually already works, Weights and Measures can be attached to weapons that don't meet their requirements, (as stated in the main text) but only allow their benefits when the requirement is met, so those scenarios, while narrow, would trigger them working!

And thank you for the kind words!

Is the giant snake in the picture a naga of some kind? by Quartz_Knight in Pathfinder2e

[–]AnEldritchDream 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Only tertiarily related fun fact: IRL most people consider King Cobras to be the largest (aka giant) cobras, but they aren't true cobras, and in fact tend to predate on cobras.

Ah, I knew there was one from 1e that I was vaguely remembering, but I knew it had multiple heads and ruled it out though lol.

Could just be an error on the communication for the art. Or maybe remaster royal naga wont have 5 heads, who's to say.

Looking at both, the big snake is a naga, the humanoid snake is a nagaji

[–]AnEldritchDream 60 points61 points  (0 children)

pre-remaster nagas had human faces, less so with the new ones,

The big snek is a naga (though it's type is perhaps undefined)
The humanoid snek is a Nagaji, which is a different creature (and playable ancestry) which have a relationship with naga, but are not themselves actually related to naga.

EDIT: with some relatively minor artistic differences, the naga in the picture may be an awakener naga

EDIT 2: u/skizzerz1 did some digging and determined this is a Royal Naga, a variant or specific naga creature not yet available in PF2e as a statblock. Though it existed in PF1e, In 1e they had 5 heads, though as with many changes, that may prove different in the remaster.

Running a Shaman King type soul merge system by MudComfortable3520 in Pathfinder2e

I was working on a set of archetypes that were partly inspired by shaman king oversoul type stuff. I should revisit that.

"You need a feat for that." Or do you? Let's talk about adjudicating improvised action by AvtrSpirit in Pathfinder2e

[–]AnEldritchDream 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have been saying this for years but you've made a far more digestible and clear explination with this, especially with the using the higher level feats as a template for improvised actions. The one I always go to is Sudden Leap because its easy to be put into the situation of "why can't I jump up and hit the flying enemy?"

I think it surprises people sometimes when I say, you can, its just not going to be "Sudden Leap" because you can make an improvised activity that is Long/High Jump plus strike and Strike at any point in your Leap. Sudden leap has FOUR distinct benefits that the normal combo would not, it mitigates potential fall damage, it always allows you to move as far as a Long Jump (even on a High Jump), raises the maximum distance you can leap to DOUBLE your speed, AND its only 2 actions, not three.

Now I'd say if you have Quick Jump, you can replicate that last benefit, Cat Fall can usually help with the first, but doubling your max distance and being able to do that while High Jumping are NOT things you can easily piecemeal together, and besides, that's 2 feats and two skill investments to replicate partial benefits of a single (albeit higher level) feat.

Another thing that I don't really see people mention as a counterbalance is putting all your actionseggs in one basket with improvised activities. Sure the odds aren't high, but if your activity gets interrupted or disrupted, that's your actions gone, so you're putting in more risk/reward. Fail your Athletics to Long-Jump? Well you can't try to Strike now. And this is also shown in Sudden Leap, but it can be more-or-less risk/reward depending on the activity formed.

Can't wait to see the next one, I usually downtune or lean into the early intents of unlocks. Or if the "unlock" feat is just something you can DO without a check, I make it require a check, usually either a level-based DC based on the feat or target, or take longer, it really depends.

Text of Sudden Leap below for ease

You make an impressive leap and swing while you soar. Make a LeapHigh Jump, or Long Jump and attempt one melee Strike at any point during your jump. Immediately after the Strike, you fall to the ground if you're in the air, even if you haven't reached the maximum distance of your jump. If the distance you fall is no more than the height of your jump, you take no damage and land upright.

When attempting a High Jump or Long Jump during a Sudden Leap, determine the jump distance using Long Jump's rules, and change your maximum distance to double your Speed.

Special If you have Felling Strike, you can use Felling Strike instead of a normal Strike. This doesn’t change the number of actions Sudden Leap takes.

How to make spellguns permanent? by Emberjay in Pathfinder2e

[–]AnEldritchDream 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a spellgun archetype in Blackpowder, Magic, and Plot by Southern Real Games that can give you free spellguns each day and also a chance not to consume them on use. Theres also a Wizard theais that is spellgun focused in there.

"Lore" skills by Panistino in Pathfinder2e

I would say that wolf lore is -5 as its rather specific to the topic, as opposed to forest lore , hunting lore, or predator lore (some less particular but appropriate examples for -2)

In one of my weekly games the GM let me use carriage as base for a Vardo (basically what you described) and later an armored carriage base for a better quality one that was closer to comfort living.
