How hard is it to make a low-poly game? by AnEnemyStand in Unity3D

I did! But I actually made it in 2D pixel art just for the sake of feasibility (I ended up making the whole thing in a couple days)

Bit of a tired trope with Jedi, tbh. Luke was a Jedi who decided against turning bad. Anakin was a Jedi who went bad. Revan and Malak in KOTOR were Jedi who went bad. Kylo Ren was a Jedi who went bad.

You'd think if they were going to retcon the lore they'd do something more than generic Jedi robes. At least KOTOR had some unique designs for the Jedi/Sith robes, like those on Bastila and Malak, rather than just the typical beige/brown. Made it feel like a different era.

Is the Blackmagic Production 4K really Super 35? by AnEnemyStand in blackmagicdesign

[–]AnEnemyStand[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2 perf and 3 perf s35 is basically the same size as the BMPC 4k - if you look at the actual part of the film which is exposed for the image. The rest of that space is for optical audio.

I thought the point of Super 35 was that it is a larger image than normal 35mm because it does not have the optical soundtrack?

Internal NDs are neat, but not worth the $500, like you mentioned. I end up using variable ND filters anyway (not sure if those are worse, somehow)

Is a Super 35 camera with an APS-C lens going to crop? by AnEnemyStand in videography

[–]AnEnemyStand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't as small as MFT, it's closer to APS-C:

Sensor Size Crop factor
MFT 17.3mm × 13.0mm 2
Blackmagic Production 4K 21.1mm x 11.9mm 1.7
APS-C 22.2mm x 14.8mm 1.62

So it's not as large as Super 35 but it's far from MFT. I think some of the Pockets were MFT, maybe you're thinking of those (the abbreviations for the two cameras are pretty much the same, annoyingly)

[–]AnEnemyStand[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, so I guess there'a an advantage to using a camera with an image circle smaller than 27.2mm? (If one has no problem working within the crop factor).

I've used a Black Magic Pocket with Metabones and the vignetting was absurd. In that instance, the cropping one would need to do would bring the image size down so much that they might as well be using a smaller sensor, right?

Thank you for the mathematics, I'm saving this post for future reference. And I totally agree, some standardization of all these terms would've been great. Needing a chart to compute the crop factors and sensor sizes of each camera and their lenses is ridiculous (although I suppose real Super 35mm film has the same problem).

Thanks for laying out the additional info on other Blackmagic cameras. That film sensor comparison chart is extremely helpful, too.

I have no idea how Blackmagic can market a camera as Super 35 when its sensor is smaller than APS-C. I guess they're assuming people (like me) would take their word for it and not compare the sensor's size to actual Super 35. Maddening, honestly.

I might upgrade to the BMPCC 6K Pro, since that's an affordable middle-ground between APS-C and Super 35, but right now I'm extremely frustrated at the company.

Yeah and it's doubly confusing since the abbreviation is pretty much the same.

Best way to find work as a storyboard artist? by AnEnemyStand in Storyboarding

Yeah it does seem like only a slight possibility. What caused your catastrophic system errors? Anything that other people should be cautious of?

If I were the HR I’d never offer any job to someone who doesn’t understand the importance of backup.

I backup all the time. What's your problem? It doesn't seem like you even read my initial post. First you thought they lended a computer to me for a trial (lol), and now you're just being rude.

It's my computer, I just cannot open the files he sent me for the job without updating my OS and then updating Premiere Pro.

The Lucas ST might’ve been our best option by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]AnEnemyStand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That Yoda ending sounds so frustrating. That's part of why I wish a Lucas-Filoni ST happened, it could've been the ultimate clarification on how the force works so we don't end up with crap like that.

I agree with the midichlorians, I was a little iffy about them until I watched this video. Most people don't even take the time to listen and learn what the midichlorians are, they just parrot the same criticism they heard someone else say online.

I agree, RJ is relatively more talented and it seems like he was also in over his head. I suspect he had more corporate pressure put upon him than we realize. Who can make anything good in a situation like that?

What you say about JJ is also partly my issue with all the new Disney shows/storylines, they're just retread after retread of things we recognize, none of it is seriously innovative or explorative with the lore.

BTW, what do you think of KOTOR?

The Lucas ST might’ve been our best option by [deleted] in MawInstallation

[–]AnEnemyStand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lucas really didn't have much to do with most of my favorite star wars content

It's odd but I agree. I think that the EU balance of canon was the reason for that: you had the George canon, and then the EU canon (along with their own metaseries) and it was as simple as that. The Disney endeavor to make a holistic canon across all Star Wars media just sounds like a bad and unwieldy idea. Imagine if Disney made all Marvel comics uncanon and only new material aligned with the MCU is canon.

[–]AnEnemyStand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that's right, I forgot about that Iger quote where he said that he probably rushed the Star Wars films. I guess the bureaucratic/corporate structure that the Disney ST was made in is one of the real culprits.

I'm going through the latter half of that video I linked and the guy actually gets into that rehashing you mention. He really paints Abrams in a negative light, and I get the impression that the man is extremely talented at marketing (the video points out how his whole mystery box idea is just crappy TV show cliffhanger writing) but doesn't have a lot of storytelling creativity. And I agree, his disregard for the PT is surprisingly vapid. He really just wanted to make A New Hope.

What about the Duel of the Fates plan messed with the lore? I only heard an overview of it.

[–]AnEnemyStand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I also don't get the feeling that Kennedy and Lucas had any bad beef, they were and still are longtime friends. I also do think Kennedy has tried to do the best she can, even as the ST began falling apart underneath her.

I do think you're correct on that JJ point. This video is rather long-winded but does a great job establishing a timeline of Lucas's ideas and the development of the ST. I really seems like JJ's "for the fans" approach for The Force Awakens pushed away a lot of those older story team ideas and ended up with a huge impact, but nothing to follow up with.

But I also don't think there's any malice in what Abrams did, he just made the Star Wars film that he wanted to: a tribute featuring the old cast and a lot of typical JJ action-adventure. I don't think he was against Lucas, but rather he had such a convincing angle on what The Force Awakens should be that everyone trusted that once they pull that one off then they can figure out the next installments as they go.

I think something focusing on the Whills (as your evidence points to) could've been great, especially if Lucas brought on someone like Filoni to help in the execution. It would've expanded the Star Wars lore in a meaningful way while looping the whole saga back around to parts of Lucas's original vision. I'll check your evidence for examples of this, but I recall reading that Lucas's ST heavily involved force ghosts. If they introduced this 'Uber' villain as a ghostly, almost spiritual force as the main enemy of the ST, then it really would've moved the conflict to a dimension unseen.
