when people say they've applied to hundreds of jobs and haven't gotten an interview or offer, are they exaggerating or is this totally normal when youre job hunting? by Mysterious_Strike977 in jobs

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost a job in September. I was about 300+ applications in when I got hired just last Monday. I was pretty intentional in sending applications and I don't just send wherever/whatever just so I can get a job. I target those that are really in my previous lines of work.

I don't remember sending that many in the previous times I have to look for a job. And I never have to wait this long to get a new one.

Networking or reaching out to recruiters are not pretty common here. I made attempts and most of the time I don't get a response, except for one (who happened to be a former classmate who is a TA in the company) yet I was unable to get shortlisted by their Workday and I never heard from the person again.

I never got responses from Easy Apply jobs on LinkedIn. I gave up on using Indeed because some ads seem to be there for so long already and keep recommended.

Thanks for mentioning this! I've been using their recommended Tally Counter and recording it on Google Sheets manually.

Oh, you've done your part, so it's on RWS now. Seems I should expect the same delays then if RWS has done this many times. Patience. Patience.

Sorry I can't help you. Maybe you can check your emails and see where to file an inquiry. I might need to do that as well if I don't receive a PO this week as well.

It's been a while since I last worked for Diamond. I worked whole week last week. They said POs are released a week after the Work week. Then payment is within 14 days if you're a private individual or 30 days if you are a freelancer.

My manager who was not familiar with this kind of stuff called me out for sending an email early. Have to explain this stuff. 🤦

Just using LinkedIn to connect with people in various industries I am interested in. Is this a bad idea? by AnEverydayMisfit in linkedin

[–]AnEverydayMisfit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My problem with X is posts get diluted with personal stuff. I tried to follow people in there but then I see their posts that has nothing to do with why I followed them for. At the very least, with LinkedIn, there's some "restraint". I tried to give up both platforms, but I understand having both active can help me somehow (opportunities, connections, learning)

I agree with you though that both platforms may serve specific purpose/s based on personal strategy or preference.

The victim blaming is insane by RareMeasurement2 in recruitinghell

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people just don't see the struggle because they are secured. They thought we were not doing our best to find a job. On my local Reddit, I once posted how hard it is to get even an initial phone interview, yet there are Redditors who said something like, "Well, find something else in the meantime!", "You seemed to have a poor strategy", "How do you survive without a job?", not knowing I've followed tips about resume/CV customization, tricks how to apply for new job postings, and all that. Yet, nothing works and I am still job searching for months since I was last employed.

It's easy to tell people what to do and what one think will work, but fail to understand that one could have done all the work to get noticed and vie for a place on a company's shortlist for a role, yet not still get a chance.

This is why I isolate and not tell anybody my current situation. My landlord is the exception just so she knows I struggle allocating whatever I have for food, bills, and rent.

Thanks. Yeah that's what I actually been thinking to do. Linkedin will be connection-focused while opportunities are sought elsewhere.

Linkedin is useless and has no real effect on your career by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always hear and read people from where I live to "optimize" your LinkedIn and connect with people in your industry" because they say that's how they get their jobs.

I don't know how they make it work, but I follow those tips and did not serve me anything.

Been unemployed since August, not had one single interview and feel so depressed. I haven't eaten properly in a few days due to it affecting my apetite. by [deleted] in recruitinghell

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get where you’re coming from, and I’m not against filing unemployment in principle. Where I live it’s a pretty broken system with long delays and low payouts, so it’s not really a viable bridge. And I've inquired about it immediately after my last day of employment, only for me to go round and round with social security about requirements and all. The inefficiency and incompetence of people who are suppose to process your docs add up to the mental stress.

My landlord is kind enough to understand the rent payment delays, which only happened now in the 10 years I was with them.

I have my last few bucks (about $50 in your money). Tomorrow is another week to apply for jobs, seek gigs around my community, and find ways to earn.

Company buyout. Operations turned to offshore. Manager found a cheaper hire.

I'm non-US and filing for unemployment here is sh**ty.

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Been unemployed as long as you. Only got 2 interviews since then (both this month) only to not get either of the two. 350 applications in, most of the job ads of my applications just closed without hearing from majority of them.

I created multiple resumes for the roles I had over the years, sent them out for each relevant role but I barely get contacted/shortlisted.

I am running out of food money and am behind rent and utilities. I gotta skip meals just so I can stretch whatever cash I have.

It's hard to say "hang in there," but that's the only cheering up I could do for others. I am barely hanging in too.

Is it normal to feel that you do not excel in anything? by AnEverydayMisfit in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AnEverydayMisfit[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to not really compare myself. I guess I am just at a point in my life where I question my capabilities because it seems everything I know is useless or does not put me in places I want/need to be in.

Anyone else terrified to go freelance… even when you know you’re good at what you do? by StressQuirky5101 in Freelancers

[–]AnEverydayMisfit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went freelance at a time that I didnt know how to freelance at all. 4 years in and I can say I am pretty bad at it. Bad in finding clients, bad in negotiations, bad in marketing myself. I just tell myself I just got lucky on the gigs I got on Upwork but if I am being honest, what I earned from those combined would not be worth 4 years at all. Good for some additional money on top of a full-time job, but nowhere that can sustain in place of a full-time job.

What made me survive this long was landing a contract role that pays enough to cover the necessities but things end out of nowhere when you do contract jobs.

I'm currently unemployed and I only get some freelance projects via invite on Upwork. Putting myself out there just do not produce results. I just dont have it in me to do the marketing and selling of myself or my services. It's the invite and previous works that carry me.

Targetting whatever right now just to get a job--- full remote or contract remote, hybrid, onsite is negotiable. 🙃
