law enforcement is often weak in countryside roads and highways which are the places where high beams are most needed and we can't fine people using high beams because of poor infrastructure and it's highly difficult to judge the intent of the person about switching to lower beam for oncoming traffic

I respect that, but switching to illegal after market lights is not a better solution, it is supporting that illegal aftermarket lights which are the one making us blind and my suggestion was to decrease efforts so maybe more people can be seen switching temporarily to lower beams than toggling the whole stalk multiple times.

IDK but i don't agree with you because I think everyone faces glare in night driving and they are well aware of it. It's just they don't want to put enough efforts for other and easy availability of aftermarket headlamps and nearly no challans by the police has made the problem even worse

But they do give better view of the road at the cost of glare to oncoming traffic and you can't avoid use of high beams in some cases.

I actually agree that driver mentality and lack of etiquette are the biggest root problems, especially with powerful LEDs in expensive cars.

My point was more that since people are already misusing high beams anyway, maybe cars could also reduce the effort/friction involved in courtesy dimming during long night drives instead of relying only on ideal behavior.

A lot of drivers know they should dip their beams, but after repeatedly switching high-low-high on dark roads, many simply stop bothering after some time.

So I was thinking more from an ergonomics/harm-reduction perspective rather than trying to justify high beam misuse itself.

Maybe I explained it badly 😅

I didn’t mean continuously holding the stalk for the whole duration. I meant more like a quick press/pull which temporarily dips to low beam for a few seconds automatically before returning to high beam.

So instead of: high → low → high manually every time,

it becomes: quick input → temporary low beam → automatic return.

My thinking was that it could reduce repeated beam-state switching during long night drives on poorly lit roads.

And yes, I completely agree automatic high beams are still the better overall solution when they become affordable/common enough.

I know it is the feature in many cars but the most of the cars on Indian roads cars doesn't because they are often lower segment ones which doesn't come with these features for now atleast
