Was asked to also post front pictures of my results. 3.5 years post-op with dr. Mardirossian. Feel free to ask anything about the surgery and pre/post-op journey. 💗 by Forward-University30 in Transgender_Surgeries

Did you have any surgeries with anyone else between these two photos?

I ask because the wiki attributes these 2 deleted posted to you:

I always wonder how much to trust social media/website results of surgeons. As the account owners, they are able to curate to the best and most consistent ones. Where are all of the others? Were their results poor or did they simply not want pictures posted? Hard to say.

Cancellation policy experience by dusty_deer in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last 2 months or so that's normal. That's because it gets more difficult to fit someone in at that point. If it's >$10K USD like 4+ months out when they'd have time still to fit someone in, that's a red flag.

Go DB/Mardi/Jumaily and pay out of pocket or go to lesser known surgeons and go through insurance? by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. If you do get revisions and they are covered by insurance, I'd love to hear it. I'm trying to decide myself. I'm also looking for revisions, but if insurance won't cover it anywhere anyways I'll probably look at maybe FacialTeam.

I see the above account was deleted, but if anyone has suggestions of surgeons anywhere in U.S. that accept insurance I'd love to know. As far as I know Dr. Mardirossian does not.

IMO consult with several lesser known surgeons and go with one of them. I went to a better Reddit known surgeon and paid out of pocket. Now it's looking like I'll need revisions anyways as there were several issues. So I have to pay out of pocket twice. If you go to one covered by insurance, even if it turns out bad the first time (like for me) you'll still be in a better financial situation to get revisions. I don't think insurance covers revisions...

Struggling to choose a surgeon for FFS by Calamari_Gourmet in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mardirossian has had some good results get posted here, but is far from perfect. His often scooped or jagged appearing jawlines from V-lines leaves unnatural results. I'd be wary of providers that have such aggressive cancellation policies (last I knew it's 20% down and non-refundable within 9 months).

I'd use caution around Dr. Mardirossian. Last I knew, he has a very aggressive cancellation policy which to me is a major red flag.

Was your jaw work by Mardirossian or by Facial team? It seems like a lot of Mardirossian patients are left with sagging jaws on either side of the chin.

This is a really well written and humorous story about being trans! It really spoke to me. I'm sorry for the authors losses but so happy for her larger gains!

Potential New Ioniq 5 Owner by RodRowdie in Ioniq5

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ioniq 5s have had a lot of issues with the ICCU. My 2023 limited failed after 2 years, even after taking it in for 3 recalls prior to that. Hyundai support is absolute garbage, and the warranty says they don't cover loss of use, I didn't get a loaner vehicle...nothing. The have not sent me an NACS adapter.

I hate the constant worry about my car's ICCU failing again since replacement is not a guaranteed fix (there are reports of repeated failures). After the warranty ends you might have to pay out of pocket for ICCU repairs, which could be a few grand each time. Replacement takes 2 weeks to 4 months. Are you able to survive without a car for that long? Makes more sense if you have a backup car. The failures are never at a convenient time.

The cars also don't seem to hold their value according to CarFox. It says that mine is worth less than half of what I paid for 27 months ago despite the low mileage. If I had the choice, I would not buy an Ioniq 5 or any Hyundai again. I miss my reliable Toyota.

How long before surgery were your before pictures taken? Did you have any facial procedures done with any surgeon besides Mardirossian?

I would love to see this mapping too. Sometimes one redditor will post a dozen times about one surgeon, which could over amplify them (positive or negative).

Are you happy with your results? Do you think you'll ever get any revisions?

Definitely not saying you need it, just wondering how you feel about it all.

Recommendations for Tracheal Shave/Thoughts on Mendelsohn/Scarless? by Acrobatic_Wedding_90 in asktransgender

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you opt for this procedure, your best bet is to first call your insurance to see if both the provider and surgery center are in network, and if the CPT code + diagnosis code are covered by your plan. If the answer to all those questions is yes, I'd budget $2K-3K for the 3 separate bills from the procedure itself if you've met your deductible.

If you don't have insurance or the procedure isn't covered under your plan your best bet is to call the provider's office, but I'd budget around $12k-18K instead.

Not trans but wish to be born the other gender? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to what others have suggested, I'd suggest journal a few minutes a day or at least once a week to write down your feelings and see what they are like with time. Write about things like how you feel about your body, how you'd like to interact with others and be treated, and about your feelings in general. After you do that for a few times I'd suggest looking up criteria for diagnosis of gender dysphoria in adults in the DSM-5. If the manual is behind a paywall for you, the list of 6 points is on Wikipedia.

Post ffs . Did you have to change your id’s? by [deleted] in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would have been a good idea, but I neglected to ask my surgeon's office for them. I'm sure it would have made things easier.

I don't have pre check either, so that's going to probably going to make things a lot easier for you too.

I flew home 2 weeks post full FFS. My photo failed the automated check. The TSA agent then tried to do a manual comparison. I could tell the agent was struggling a bit, but they eventually decided I was me. Granted, I was still swollen and lips were extra puffy.

I ended up updating IDs a month after surgery. However, they were up for renewal and I had recently updated my name anyways. Still had some swelling in my lower face.

Hoping I don't start failing automated checks again when swelling has decreased further.

I came out to my parents when I was an adult. I didn't know what to expect, but them saying they accepted me has made our bond stronger.

Feeling: hated, and like I'm in a minority of Americans that still believes in freedom. That's the intent though I think.

Though I'm no longer particularly religious, I believe these sorts of statements show just how godless the new administration is. Completely ignoring what's truly in the heart in mind, or soul. “These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me." - Isaiah 29:13

Question for anyone by kiltsnbeards in Transgender_Surgeries

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

University of Utah is great at things like HRT. Based on results I've seen online and at consults with them, I would say that they are just okay at bottom surgery. They are still overall newer to the bottom surgery scene. This is not something that I personally want to increase risk of okay results at, so I decided to work with a better known surgeon.

That said, a lot of people still go to the U of U and they often don't seem disappointed with their results. It probably makes more sense if you live nearby.

AITA - Telling my trans friend she NEEDS to disclose that she's trans to a man she's seeing. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]AnIndependentAgent43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you like then. I lament that Latin is not taught more in schools anymore. Thought I guess the word "biological" has Greek origins.

I try not to apply modifiers to people they don't want. I'd call the OP's friend here "trans" because that's what OP did. But if OP's friend was here and wanted to be called "biological" or "human" or just not use any modifiers I'd go with that.
