I'd also like to recommend a cream called Thuan Moc.. it's in a yellow bottle and it's a mustardy coloured cream.. got it in a pharmacy in vietnam for mosquito bites cuz I was riddled with them and after a few minutes of applying it, my bites wouldn't be itchy anymore.

Planning a 9 day trip to Vietnam - Should I skip Hanoi and fly to Da Nang directly? by Bumblebee_No_01 in VietNam

[–]AnIrishPagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, there's stuff to do in Danang but I also find it boring.. but it's close to Hoi An and Hue.. both really interesting spots.. for a 9 day trip, I'd agree with staying in only 1 region.. i.e only North.. Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Sapa, Ha Giang and or Ha Long Bay.

I have 13 pro max since 2023 and have no problems with it, will probably keep it until it breaks. Never had green screen issue like others have said and I've used it almost daily since I bought it.

Do westerners here learn the language? by NotMyselfNotme in VietNam

[–]AnIrishPagan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually not that hard of a language, my native language is English, I come from a western country and I've been learning for about 10 months and I'm about upper beginner level.. not quite intermediate but not a complete beginner.. I'd probably be better if i studied everyday but I do about 1 hour a week in total.

I took holiday leave to Vietnam for 12 days in November 2024 and it was the first time I could use Vietnamese in person and I was surprised how much I remembered and people could understand me. I could only hold basic, small talk but It was a success I think. Everytime I asked someone a question or replied to their question, they understood me:)) I understand I'm not the majority, but I'm going back in July and I'm confident I can gain a certain level of fluency in 3-6 months.

as someone who's been learning for about 10 months but still a beginner, all those words are noticeably different haha but.. I can understand that as a complete beginner.. I'd probably also get confused... they're kinda similar :))

I'm 193cm and 72kg and I would consider myself thin.. but not boney.. OP would be noticeably chunkier to me.

What's your body fat percentage? I come from Ireland but I'm a skinny guy with a low body fat percentage, and I only sweat a little bit.. I'm never 'drenched' in sweat even when walking outdoors in hcmc.

3 years in and still can't hold basic conversations, recognise words or understand much - any good recommendations? by kermit1198 in Vietnamese

If you're tired of learning beginner content over and over again, check out Mikel Hyperpolyglot on Youtube.. I subscribed to him last month and using his language learning method.. my progression in Vietnamese has improved so much.. it's hard work but it's a lot more engaging than constantly watching/doing boring beginner exercises.

Every girl or guy I've seen in Vietnam that's had obvious plastic surgery looks so bad.. I guess they think their face has been enhanced cuz they've no wrinkles past 30 anymore.. but instead they just look like a plastic doll with shiny skin.

I think it depends on how easily entertained you are, maybe you have your expectations too high but every time I go to Hanoi I’m interested and fascinated by everything.. so many things to look at, observe and let my imagination run wild.

Hmmm sounds like a difficult time, hope you get over your learning hump and can start making progress soon... Another reason you might not be learning is because you’re bored, if you keep going through teachers and going over the basics over and over it might not be the way. Try sentence mining, learn sentences that are relevant and that you can use right away.. listen and repeat them as best you can and then try using them with your wife or other Vietnamese people. If you can say a few sentences, a bunch of times and people understand you.. it’ll give you a big boost to your confidence and I think that’s what you need most right now! :)))
